Zune or Vision M?

In the market for a MP3/Video player, and I've narrowed it down to these two. I'm really interested in putting vids on there (Like my Firefly DVDs), so the Zune's larger screen is a big plus for me. However the Vision is supposedly very good for videos as well, being it supports so many formats.

I have a Zen Micro Photo (8GB). One problem it has is that I can't see or read the screen outside in the sun. Does the Zen Vision M have that problem as well? Also, what about the Zune in that case?

I'm ok with using the Zune's software as long as I'll be able to convert the files as needed. I'll mainly want to be bring stuff from my DVD's to put on the Zune. Is that going to be easy? What about with the Zen Vision M?

Any insights or suggestions you can offer me to help make my decision?

Re: Zune or Vision M?

most lcds are weak under direct sunlight, so you're pretty much screwed in that area

I say the Zune because you get a lot more than 8Gb.

I agree, but the ipod is above any other mp3 player on the market. Every accessory made for anything ( car cd player hookups, home entertainment centers, etc) that you want completely integrated into some sort of system is being made for the ipod. Theres podcasts, ipod compatible movies, etc etc. Anything and everything is made for the ipod, and its done well. Id never buy an apple computer, but when it comes to mp3 players, i wouldnt even consider something else.

Re: Zune or Vision M?

But you have to install iTunes. So I'm not ever going to have one.

Hack Attack: Add music and movies to your iPod from any computer without iTunes - Lifehacker

Theres other things like that too...

Theres a winamp plugin, musicmatch will do it, and other programs. iTunes is definitely not the only app that will load an ipod up

Heheh, not debating if I should get the Zen Micro photo or not, I have it. Debate is between the Zune or the Zen Vision M which also has 30Gb (also 60Gb version).

Don't necessarily want an Ipod, as I hear that connecting to other computers than your own results in having to reconnect to your computer to get your stuff back. I could be wrong on that. Also Ipod exclusive stuff like podcasts and such is not a priority for me. I prefer the Zune and Vision M's look to the Ipod anyways. Plus the Zune has the bigger screen over the Ipod, and the Vision M has better color output on the Ipod. Since Video is a priority, that is important.

Pretty sure I'm getting the Zune now though... According to Zune vs iPod vs ZVM Comparison Chart, the Zune has better readability in sunlight than the Vision M, and I know a couple people with the Zune already. Plus one of them wants a pink one really bad (to match her new Pink Chocolate), and she has the black one which I want. So I might just buy the pink one then we'll swap or something. Gotta make sure she's down with that cause no way do I want to be stuck with a pink one.

Re: Zune or Vision M?

The only problem with open source is that you can't really do anything to customize it without being legally obligated to contribute your "improvements" to the community. Unfortunately, that isn't always possible.
