**** yeah! id get a supra over a GT or V6. however a supra over a cobra, the dealbreaker would be the price of both cars. supras are expensive as hell to mod mainly cause its a small market so the vendors can rape. a good condition supra will be pretty expensive as well because they are holding their value due to their rarity and abilities.

Supra's are very stout, but very expensive even with over 100,000 miles on them. Good luck.

I know you have your heart set on a Supra and I wouldn't mind rocking one as well...BUT

Like Thomas was kind of hinting at, you will probably pay less for a Cobra, and have a bit more to work with. You might even be able to find a `99-`01 for fairly cheap. You could build it up to the `03-04 specs (was it rods that was the difference in the models?) and then super or turbo it. Supras are capable of a lot of power but so are Cobras, plus the fun of rear wheel drive. Just something to consider.

nah, thats not really true, I am in the process of buying a pickup for a daily driver and I was looking into it..you can get a loan through USAA for low 5% apr range with "good" credit which is on the lower side of car loans...unless you find specials, most car loans are between 4.9% and 8.3% depending on your credit rating...plus if you use USAA, you tend to get cashback at year's end depending on company performance, paying on time, etc.

Exactly, a friend of mine just sold his Mark IV TT with the BPU(basic power upgrades--for some reason supra owners can't remember what they've done to their car but that is another rant) stuff because it's just to damn expensive to make faster reliably. It was his daily driver and he knew better than to keep dropping money in it.

A supra is just like any other performance car, you have to have money to make it faster, except with a supra you multiply that by a factor of 2 or 3.

Oh, the only difference was: Supercharged, 6 speed T-56 gearbox, beefier IRS than 99 and 01, better flowing heads(off of a navigator), JE pistons(they were contracted out), forged rods(i think JE did these also), stouter clutch, different front bumper, different hood, different spoiler, wider wheels and tires(275/40's on 17 x 9's compared to 245/45's on a x 8).........

Exactly, I can't stand that ****. I really didn't think people spoke like that until this kid pulled up in starkville and I asked what he had done and of ****ing course he said it was BPU'd. My reply was, "That's great and all, but what's done to it." He hardly knew what was what on the car. I'm 99.99999999 percent he bought the car that way.

lol, I did believe it or not at one time, but I stored that information on a memory stick.

And someone is borrowing it I think

um..I think I was only referring to bringing the engine up to the same spec. I knew there was something about the rotating assembly, but I did not know about the heads. But you did leave out the different rear bumper and interiors too...

And didn't they still have the "v6" side scoops too?

And I dont know what's up with that little net thingy. My buddy's 03 GT has one of those. I almost stole it one day. I think they put them in different cars at random.

The rods in the 03/04 cobra are Manley (spelling) if I remember right.

The Supra is a nice car but overpriced IMO... far to much coin for an old *** car (unless its been taken very well car of which are hard to find) and the bank loan value is probably what you should expect to get so you might have to pay some cash down.

From what I have heard you have to spend a ton of money to get good power out of a super since the after market is so damn expensive. Dont buy something you cant afford to take care of. With all that said enjoy what ever it is that you buy.

banks will give a loan for blue-book value minus the Fast and Furious markup.

nowadays youll have to put 5-10k+ on top of the bank loan for a supra.

Re: crossing over to the darkside!!! sry...

The pistons in a 03/04 Cobra are pretty stout(even though they have virtually no clearance between them and the cylinder walls) but they are not as good as JE pistons. They are the cheapiest forged pistons that Ford could find.

I would most defenantly say that a TT Supra's 2jewhyuykqweyg what ever the **** its called is a more stout motor stock than a Terminators motor. I read an article one time where they were comparing the stoutness between a 2jewhyuykqweyg and a GTR's RB26(another stout TT inline 6) and the Supra's motor was easily capible of handling more boost and higher hp than the GTR's. Just one example of why this is, is the Supras motor came with 16mm rod bolts while the GTR's had 11mm rod bolts. The Supra's motor is rediculously strong for a factory motor.

With all that said a Terminators motor is very bad *** and will handle crazy amounts of HP. Also Supra's = old car with a high price take.

Re: crossing over to the darkside!!! sry...

the reason they are so strong is Toyota is smart. they know theyre going to put forced induction behind a motor, they dont want to see half the cars come back for warranty work because they cheaped out on the rotating assembly, so they put a little more R&D into it up front to avoid such issues. Most factory FI cars will be stout enough to handle almost twice their stock output.

i think the supras motor is a 2jz-gte or some**** like that. and always remember, a couple nissan SR20's swapped into civics will pull a premium at race wars.

How good is the turbocharged Toyota I-4 that they put in the MR2. I don't really now alot about them. I saw a video of a MR2 that made over 800 rwhp with that motor though.

Maybe they could put the Spoon engines with t66 turbos, nos, and motec exhausts in the 240's. That should pull a premium.... I think.

Re: crossing over to the darkside!!! sry...

:barf: MR2 motors(3S GTE) are NOTHING in comparison to the bigger brother 2JZ GTE..... I'd say 400-450 would be pushing it greatly. I'd put it will the SR-20 DET slivia motor.

That is comparing stock to stock though. Don't know what the blocks/rods/pistons can handle in the aftermarket world. I guess depends on your pocket book like everything else.

Re: crossing over to the darkside!!! sry...

MR2 Sypder can be done up nice, theres a Import Shop around here who took an all Stock MR2 Spyder into the 12s and I do mean 100% stock, all they did is rip off everything that wasnt needed. Last I heard is they were building a big ol turbo setup for the car (tried looking for the thread but site got sold and isnt the same msgbrd )

Guess Ill see how that turns out soon enough when their done
