H22 in a Civic?

I think that's the right bingo sequence for the Honda Prelude's 2.2L 4-banger. If you were to drop one in a Civic (say, late-80's or early-90's), what do you think it would run? I'm more interested in 1/8th times, but I guess 1/4 will work if you're one of those people.

No. I'm not planning on buying a Civic, if that's what you're afraid of.

Re: H22 in a Civic?

I've heard high 12's with a hatch with a stripped interior, but I don't really now for sure.

Re: H22 in a Civic?

/\ Sounds spot on. I've raced an H22 in a civic hatch and detroyed it though(in the bullitt), but that car had CRAZY problems(oil leak, no vtec, no tuning done, etc.)

Now, H22 as in 220 hp motor right? I would say on street tires in a 2300 lb hatch(full interior EG hatch) with good tires and a decent driver, 8.70's, maybe 8.60's and low 13's 1/4

yeah i was gonna say low 13s cause theres a bunch of them around here that have done that swap like religiously now throw on a turbo and you have a mid-high 10.xx second car (in a hatch of course)

Of course it also depends on how well you can hook up.

Re: H22 in a Civic?

All these answers are about what I expected. The whole reason for this post was that I ran into a guy at the bar on Tuesday night that was claiming that his H22 swap Civic was running 7.5's at Huntsville Dragway. I didn't feel like debating with him or anything, so I just left it at "That's fast."

I guess it's possible that he's running forced induction or spray, but he didn't mention it. :dunno:

Yeah he wont run a 7.5 with just the swap and some bolt ons. Like you said he must be spraying or something.

Re: H22 in a Civic?

I would assume spray. Turbo on a still functioning VTEC H22 is extremely peaky power and hard to put to the ground. Hell anything "big"(as in the honduh world) such as an LS or a B18 with any decent size turbo has problems. The already peaky power of the turbo combining with VTEC makes it really look like they're spraying at 5500 or 6 grand becausing of the sudden increase in exhaust and full spool of the turbo.

FI and/or spraying honduh's aren't too hard to get into the 11's in a hatch, but getting good 1/8 mile times, like a 7.52, is actually quite a feet in a "street" car. I would put a hundred bucks on it that that guy is running slicks. If he's not, he's 10 pounds of bull**** in a one pound bag.

perfect response, i agree 100%

plus hes fwd, so even the best of drivers will have trouble getting down the track even with slicks when putting that kind of power to the fronts on a light *** car. 1/4 mile will be better cause he will finally grab at half track and pull the rest of the way to make up for the crappy first 1/8, but if its just 1/8mi then i doubt he will do much but spin.
