Crimes, accidents and other occurrences

They've got a Redstone base newspaper that they print every Wednesday. My favorite part is the Crimes, accidents and other occurrences section. Sometimes, it's ****ing priceless. I think I'm going to start sharing it with the board, at least when there's good stuff in there.

The Provost Marshal Office provided the following list of reported incidents:

June 7: An individual was found to be operating his motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license after stopping at Gate 10. He was issued a violation notice and released.

June 8: An individual stopped at Gate 10 and requested directions, at which time the guard smelled an alcoholic beverage. The subject submitted to the field sobriety test, failed and was arrested for driving under the influence. The passenger was checked out and three warrants for his arrest had been issued by Arab police department. He was arrested by Redstone police department and then later turned over to Arab police department. The DUI subject was issued three summons for court after several hours in the detention cell, then released.

June 9: An individual failed to stop at Gate 10, running through. The road spikes were deployed, deflating all four of the tires on the SUV. He finally stopped and was found to be operating his motor vehicle with a revoked driver's license. Further investigation revealed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and was in possession of an open container. He was issued three violation notices and placed in the detention cell until his blood alcohol content reached an acceptable level.

Traffic accidents reported: one without injuries [the one I was in], none with injuries.

Violation notices issued: 21 speeding, 1 failure to obey traffic control device, 1 expired tag, 2 driving with a suspended driver's license, 1 driving under the influence, 1 inattentive driving [the bastard who ran into me], 5 move over law.

I realize the TA looks a bit high up off the ground since it hasn't been lowered...but it's not quite an SUV.

****, you don't get flats on our base, you get a ****ed up car. If, and I mean IF, you make it through the gate, about 100 feet past it there is a raised area in the road that is a "speed bump." But if you one of the idiot that decided to fly on base through the gate, the people at the guard shack can press a button that triggers air valves and pushes up a raised section of solid steel several inches thick. If you going fast enough, it would launch the car up, if you aren't, your car is fubared.

We've got those on some of the gates on Redstone. It's a mixture of those, the spikes, and concrete chicanes, depending on what gate you roll up to.

I just got the paper and, unfortunately, there were no crimes this week. Not a single one. I think that's the first time it's ever happened. :dunno:

Talking while you drive on post is a big no-no. Somebody on a cell phone ran the three-star off the road a couple of weeks ago, so they're really cracking down on it.

there are a lot of classic ones from college.

i'll try to find it... but the funniest was this one chick who was so drunk she broke INTO the police station, **** on the floor, passed out, and rolled in it. the next morning they found her with her pants around her ankles, covered in poo, still drunk, and claiming that she lives there.

I'm surprised that there isn't any sound violations in those reports. My cop buddy gets those all the damn time. $300 a pop.

Now that is truly amazing. Like I said earlier in this thread, how do these people think they can get away with cruising around a military base drunk or without any of the things this guy was without. And the funny thing I find about getting pulled over for intoxication is that NO ONE is EVER pulled over being .81 because those aren't the ones who are weaving around. It's the ones that are WAY over the limit weaving around and getting pulled over for suspicion. "Hey, I'm slap *** drunk, time to go crusing around a military arsenal in nothing but my boxers".

Re: Crimes, accidents and other occurrences

Almost all these people that get arrested for DUI get arrested as they approach a gate. I think they just roll up on the gate, not really realizing what's going on, and then there's a guard with a gun up in there face. What are you going to do at that point?

Most of the time, the DUI arrests are at Gate 10. That one's just in the middle of the road. As you roll south down Patton Dr., it's just right there. Some of them require a bit more work to get to, but I think they've all had at least one published DUI.
