I think ford motor company needs to make them pay 75% of the ADM back to them.

That's absolutely insane. You should do house shopping down here, it'll blow your mind.

yes, but whats the median income in your region compared to hers? thats the difference.

houses are uber expensive here, starting at 350k for 1600sf, 3bdrm, 2bth, 2car garage. but entry level careers here are 30-40k, not to mention most graduates in any tech field are making 60k off the bat. sure they can move to BFE where houses cost half, but their income is half.

its all relative in the end.

Average income in Alabama is not what hollywood would fool you into thinking. We do rather well, and a NICE 4 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood in town might cost you 250k. An equal house in the country with about 25-30 acres can be had for about the same.

um, i think your numbers might be a little low there...most of my buddies back in jersey with 4-year degrees are starting out between 50 and 65k...average starting salary of a 4-year degree is about 35-40k in mississippi...

as far as housing costs, there is no comparison between there and here...my parents home in ocean county (NJ) is worth about 500K at 2700 sq-ft, while a similar sized house with several acres of property down here is between 150k and 200k...

So, I do agree that the increased income up there doesn't match the cost of living, but you also have to take into account that you pay a premium for living in highly populated, high demand areas...hence the reason I chose to stay in the south...you may not make as much and may not have as much to do, but you also have a lot more privacy and you can legally make a lot more modifications to your car haha...especially performance one's as there aren't any exhaust emission rules down here in redneck country lol

Re: GT500KR's Listed On Ebay

honestly, it depends on the field here, but it also helps to be able to find a job here....i used to do employment and trust me, its not easy at all up here. everyone is starting out in jobs where you are just about a minimal wages to work full time jobs.

i.e. i have a friend working nypd (terroristic threats unit), with a degree, and hes making 29k a year and he lives in nyc...tell me thats not messed up

civil servants don't make much anywhere...which in a lot of cases is unfortunate...

unless of course you are one of the twelve assitant principals at a local middle school or high school in new jersey, then you are paid out the a$$ to do nothing...something the public has been trying to fight for years....

The median income in Augusta is $68k, houses are about $80 a square foot, and gas is about $2.65 a gallon right now. What are us bass ackwards rednecks doing wrong that the folks up north and out west are doing right?

Re: GT500KR's Listed On Ebay

Here in NY you can make any amount of money. If you want to count a high school job, such as going into retail as a part timer, you can make around 10G's. Of course a pharmacy job can start at 80G's, I could only imagine what doctors and lawyers make around my area. Of course here 30 minutes from my house I can hit the ghettos. 30 minutes the other way and you'll hit acres of land and mansions going easily into the millions. A few hours eastward and there's Farms and Homes in the multi-millions.

As for what NYC gets paid it's a joke. Might be the only thing I disagreed with Gulliani on was what he did to those guys (as well as the FDNY). What's amazing is they are still getting applicants and are turning out graduates. However most are coming out this way, which is why I disagree with

My county starting as a PO is 35G's with around 90G's after 8 years. The next county is starting at just under 60G's with a pay increase of almost 100G's in 5 years (which is why I hope THEY call me), not including overtime and shift differential. Plus benefits up the ****in' wazoo.

Re: GT500KR's Listed On Ebay

The big difference with cost of home ownership in the New England area and the south doesn't have nearly as much to do with the income of the residents as it does the amount of available land. We've got piles of unused land around here. If you don't mind moving a bit outside of the metro areas (which are still insanely reasonable compared to anything up there) and the prices really fall fast.

thats true, but for my job purposes and medical right now, i can't leave this state.

property taxes here are ridiculous too. just for my house last year, taxes were 8k, not including the store that we own, that was an additional 6k, so basically, we paid 14k just in property taxes.

the cost of living here does not match these costs.

health insurance is another stupid factor (not for where i live but just for cost) and thats another 500+ a month, so its difficult to make a living up here if you are only working part time. thus, why i work so many damn jobs just to keep up.
