Misbadge-ing?

Is that a word? Maybe I'm just murdering the english language.

There's a black C5 'vette, that somebody daily drives to the office building where I work. I kindof pride myself on knowing the 'vette history and being able to identify model year. So I see this 'vette, and notice that it's got Z06 badges on it, and the vents in front of the rear wheels. It just doesn't look right to me, though. First thing out of whack was that it's got '97-'98 wheels on it (no Z06 until '01 and they got ten-spoke wheels, anyway). So I start paying more attention to it. Today, I had a revelation. It's a hatch model. The Z06 were all fixed-roof coupes. So now I know, it's obviously an imposter. Why do people put badges on a car that don't belong there? I kindof understand people putting the cobra badges on their stangs, since they look pretty cool. But Z06 badges? I don't get it. Can someone enlighten me?

Re: Misbadge-ing?

I have no idea! I'm really not a fan of putting Cobra badges on Mustangs that aren't Cobras. I don't mind the Cobras using the Pony, however. I'm with you on that. I don't understand it myself.

I don't like it either. It's like the people who have V6 Mustangs and put the GT logo on them.

I wouldn't put gt emblems on my stang but however I'm putting 5.8 HP emblems on it when I put the v8 in.

you should call him out. I called out a Mach1 with cobra badges at a red light the other day...he didn't find it quite as funny as I did.

There's an 89 lx notchback running in my area with saleen badges on it. Decent car rims lowered tinted looks good but the badges kill it for me. Its a 6cyl. I feel like its a waste of owning a car if your not proud of what you run, even if it is a 6 there is still plenty of potential...

There was no 6 offered in 89...just a little 2.4 4 cylinder or the 5.0 V8

Its funny Just a month ago I saw some kid my age at the local student book store...runnin a V6, with after market dual exhaust cutouts, pony package emblems....
...but he didnt have the pony package fogs, or spoiler, and then on the back...he had the V8 emblems that come on Ford Explorers and F150's...

I pride myself in my knowledge of Ford as you do with your 'vettes. But there is this guy at COD that has a 1995 Mustang with a ground effects kit a big wing, a huge hood, Cobra badging all over, and ****ty exhaust. A few things give it away. The high pitch V6 exhaust note and his ignorant comment about how Ford only made a hand full of V6 Cobras in '95 and he has one. Not even in the age of the Mustang II was the Cobra a V6.

What the hell is up with people in Illinois? Damn there is a few of them at COD that are "misbadged" Mustangs and what not. That is why I took off the pony emblems and put Ford emblems so it cant be mistaken as something its not.

Florida is just as bad. Driving through Orlando or Jacksonville and your bound to see a hideous mis-badged 'Stang or any car for that matter.

Re: Misbadge-ing?

I have a 90 coupe with cobra badges on it. I did that because the car basically has every part from a 93 and 03 cobra. Wheels, brakes, intake, and other parts. Its not a sleeper due to the work I have done, I just never liked the 5.0 emblems on the side. Maybe Ill take them all off, who knows. There are marks from the old 5.0 emblems so I said why not and added the Cobra ones. Besides, with 600 rwhp, does it matter if its a real snake or not????

Why the hell would you put cobra badges on a Mach 1 of all models. The Machs were badass enough and every mustang owner/fan with half a brain knows that cobras would never come with shaker scoops. Goddamn, some people.
