Aquarists unite!

I upgraded my fishtank to a 29 gallon one! Pretty soon it will be filled with little tetras and a Betta (I've researched to find out which ones are acceptable.. i also might get a corycat and some others). However, this is my first time with LIVE plants and I have a few questions for those who know anything about em...

First off, it seems as if one of my plants.. I forget exactly what it is.. kinda looks like a Wisteria is kinda being sucked a bit into the filter. Do you think this is fine or should I move it? I don't want to move it too much since I want it mostly as a background plant. Also, is there any tips or anything in hiding my filters and a heater? I mean... if this plant is already kinda gettin sucked into it a bit will it be okay when it gets bigger and surrounded with it? And any tips/tricks/recommendations to make these plants flourish?

Fish, eh, I guess I never really saw the point. If you enjoy them, that is awesome, but they aren't for me.

LMAO, this reminds me of when I was in college. A bunch of my buddies and I, I think there were 6 of us, went out and each bought a beta. We would have our own parties, get completely wasted and have beta wrestling. We would take one bowl and put 2 of them in and see who would be the winner with all of us judging it. We would stop it b4 either one died tho. Then one of my buddies decided his wanted to try some vodka....lets just say that betas dont respond well to vodka.....

but onto the real question here.
I havent worked with live plants much, but I would say to keep it back away from the filter a little. It should actually help the plant a little being close to the flow because it will be harder for parasites and bacteria to cling onto the leaves. As long as the leaves arent like inside of the filter tubes it should be fine. But whatever you do, do not try raising African Chiclides. If you want an explanation, ill give ya one, but only if ya rly want it cuz its long. And are you sue you need a heater for it? as long as your temp stays pretty even and doesnt fluxuate a lot, you shouldnt need one. These are just my opinions anyways.

Oh, and if you want a 55 gal tank, lemme know. I have 2 and wouldnt neccisarily mind selling one.

Re: Aquarists unite!

dont worry.. im stickin to the noob plants..

mainly water sprites, java fern, java moss, anubias nana, some sort of crypt named one, wisteria maybe? and something else. most of them require low lighting and are pretty hardy. oh, and the plant isnt inside the thing yet.. just one of the stems seems to be kinda plastered to one of the sides like its trying to suck it in.

and i have a heater in there because the winters can be pretty brutal, my house isnt heated very well, and i would imagine the water lowers to around low 50s in temperature. i believe betas and other tropical fish need to be around 80ish.
