Re: thinking about gettin a bike

Let me be the first to recommend you drive it like a bat out of hell, don't pay attention to anyone around you and run from cops every chance you get.

Just wanted to say that before 1000 other people got in here making sure you knew how to properly ride a bike and the risks in doing so.

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

i would definately recommend getting a bike, b/c they are a ton of fun, efficient, and just awesome.

HOWEVER. I would not buy that bike as a first BY ANY MEANS. that would be horrid for a first bike. a 600 is the max i'd start on (which is what i'm on) and most reccomend a 250. Mainly b/c 250's are much lighter, more maneuverable, waaaay more forgiving if you squeeze the brakes too hard or hit the throttle too much, and much better to learn on. You can worry more about technique etc rather than not lifting the front wheel off the ground..

also, a huge factor is starting on such a clean bike. Pretty much, it's not IF you lay it down, it's WHEN. If you start on that bike, and you lay it down, it will be a horrible feeling knowing you just messed up such a clean, expensive bike when you weren't even close to using it to its potential. Also, smaller bikes have good resale values supposively, or you could get one cheap...but i definately know how wanting to start on a 600 is...that's what i did and i dont regret it...just have to be very cautious/careful/humble and realize you arent any good on it and your abilities on it are very limited and dont go beyond your limits. take it easy for a looooong time...

seeing that that bike's rear wheel is exended etc, it probably has more power than a stock 600, which is a ton given its weight...

get a bike, but not that one!

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

also, the extended swingarm is ugly imo and it has a salvage title..i'm not feelin that one, but if you like more of a drag bike, it's your choice.

that i have to disagree with remember you DONT want a bike you will outgrow in a month

my katana 600 is a very forgiving bike and still fun, but i want faster for some stupid reason

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

uhh, yea...how is that disagreeing with me?

i say 600 is fine to start with if you're careful...also, i dont think id "outgrow" a 250 in a month..there is so much to learn about riding well, without lots of power, a 250 is legit for waaay more than a month imo. But a 600 is good too, u just dont take it balls to the walls for a long while.

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

I have been lookin for a while and what i really want is an 03 ish honda 600 f4i and they are running about the same as the gxsr also the guy I know at the place that is selling it said it would keep me from doing stupid things such as wheelies because it would be so hard to do them on a bike with that long of a swing arm... that particular arm is also adjustable back to pretty much stock all i would have to to is shorten up the chain

I have alot of time to decied beacuse I am still trying to justify to my gf why I "need" one so it might not be till next spring when my quad is payed for... but I guess it doesnt hurt to start lookin

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

I've thought about a bike recently also, only I'm looking at the cruisers instead of the crotch-rockets. Figured I could pick one up for a grand, learn to ride for the rest of the summer/fall and buy something better next spring after I know more about what I'm doing.

my first bike was a 2001 ZX6R. I would not reccomend getting anything larger than a 600 for your first bike.

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

resale on bikes is so good that if you don't pay too much for a smaller bike in the first place, you will get most of your money back out of it when you upgrade to something bigger

^ Now I want that too
I'd go with Harley for the cruise style and the Buell for American Crotch Rocket.

I own a Harley that Smokes Vrods with my wife on the back. 125 hp at the rear wheel with TONS of torque. Has a 120 cubic inch Jim's Stroker. You can have both in 1 highly modified Harley :happy1: GGBIW

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

I'm also considering a bike here soon. I was considering a 250, but am unsure since i'm a pretty big guy 270lbs. So i'm looking at a ninja500 as a possible starter bike and something I wont feel I will out grow to soon. I'm not worried about going fast. I enjoy the look of a sport bike and mostly just want to cruise on one.

I wave to everyone. Actuaully I nod my head to everyone. I hate that stupid lower wave most harley riders use. Nodding is easier also. God created all man equal in my eyes. Stupid is as stupid does. Did I get that right? GGBIW

My Hareley walks away from buells. Catch me in the tight stuff but games over on a stretch. raced a few 650's,same thing. They always give me a thumbs up when I smoke them. Shows there not "full of themselves". GGBIW

lol you act like a 650 is something to write home to........

you probably wouldnt walk away from a Firebolt XB12R. 1200cc is going to be a very hard streetbike to "walk" away from, unless youre a 'busa. my boss loves his.

my cousins 1200cc harley cruiser (dont know what kind, they all look the same to me) is about equivalent acceleration wise, to my 500cc Ninja. i took his bike for a ride and came back and was like, "yeah, its nice, but straight-line and twisties, youd lose" and he didnt believe me, so i let him take mine out and he came back like "yeah, you werent ****ting!" and that was a carb'd 500 that was way out of sync.

the thing i like about harleys though is theyre comfortable as hell IMO. Sportbikes are nice if you like the stance, i do in some instances, others i want to be sitting back. i either want a full on chopper stance where im reaching for the bars, or a full-on raked stance where im tucked into the windshield.

all this talk makes me want another bike.

bro, if ur 270 and just want the look to cruise on, you will NOT be on a sport bike for very long. a hog would be waaaaaaay more comfortable as you sit on it in a uch more relaxed fashion, rather than kind of laying on a sport bike with ur chest resting on the gas tank. a sportbike is made to be leaning very far forward..so even when ur just relaxing on it, ur lower back is workin.

u may want to check into a 250 hog by yamaha or something...go sit on both kinds of bikes and consider a good 30 minutes in those postures and decide.

u may want to check into a 250 hog by yamaha or something...go sit on both kinds of bikes and consider a good 30 minutes in those postures and decide.
a cruiser isn't out of the question, but I like sport bikes more. I just dont need or want one that is stupid fast. I'll leave the speed in a car where i'm atleast some what protected haha. I just dont know if a 250 would be powerful enough for my size. My friend who weighs around 220 had a 250 ninja and he was a little big on it. Anyway 30 minutes would probably be the longest i'm on the bike each time I use it.

Re: thinking about gettin a bike

Since you weight 270, you should get a 600 no question....

you probably wouldnt walk away from a Firebolt XB12R.

Wrong! It smokes ANY BUELL! Raced a vr1000 honda and he couldn't catch me until I was topped out at the top end in 6th gear. Vrods smoke buells allday. Owned a vrod before this Stroker. Engine is used in drag bikes.Mated to a 6 speed with race clutch, the front end rises on shear excelleration without any clutch action. Complained my clutch was slipping but found it was spinning the rear tire. Check out a 120 cubic inch Jim's Stroker. Made in conjunction with harley davidson. It is a race engine. Not cheap. GGBIW
