Open Letter to Bill Gates

Hi Bill,

Thank you for kicking off the next evolution of modern human history. However, I have 3 suggestions to help you continue the digital revolution you've led for the past 30 years..

#1. Buy a Mac
#2. Spend 20 minutes playing with it
#3. Fix your windows **** OS

I don't like any mainstream paid software myself. Opensource is the ****!
Linux all the way here. I despise Microsoft and Apple. They can both die for all they're worth to me.

You couldn't PAY me to use a Mac everyday, aside from my iPhone, which is only for play. Anything that i need for actual productivity is done with W7, hands down.

I don't like viruses or virus scanners, and having to pay for software that I can get for free that is just as good and sometimes better. Linux for me thank you!
And contrary to popular belief, linux is very user friendly nowadays. I use Linux Mint. Very nice, and if you can use Windows, you will have no problem with it!

True, but in the 5 years I've used linux, I have yet to "catch" anything harmful. I've had frostwire installed before, and we all know the plethora of crap that can infect a Windows machine on there.
I believe the people who sell the virus protection also have people that write code for viruses to protect against. More net profit in my eyes. When you buy a new computer, what do they always push to sell...... virus protection.
Unix based operating systems are used in the most secure computer and server systems in the world. All of our government computer systems run on Unix platforms for a reason.

Yes, Apple is also Unix based, but they turned freeware into their own OS and they now make money off of it. Do I blame them, no, but do I pay for any software for my machine, nope!

Re: Open Letter to Bill Gates

anything after XP Windows is trash. I'll never ever touch Vista and 7 is terrible. I've used Mac, Linux, Windows.... I love Windows but seriously the OS is terrible.

Mac is so simple and just a beast. Absolute beast. People don't like change and that's why so many continue to stick with Windows.. that's slowly changing for a reason. Plus, it seems that Windows just continues to get worse and worse.

The desktop I use at the house was originally shipped with Windows ME and still runs better than some of the new computers released today. **** my computer has better specs.(While it may not be DDR3 or what not it's still perfect) I'm just starting to have problems with the Disc Drives (which happen to be replacable for cheap. Granted I've taken care of it and updated RAM and some hardware along the way (nothing major).. but I spent $1400.00 in '99 and have now used this computer for almost 12 years without a hitch. Now that I think about it I have made sooo many OS changes... Server 2003, XP, Vista, 7, & Linux. haha Glad I bought an external harddrive a long times ago...

I'm just soo tired of the driver problems. It seems like everytime I turn around I'm rolling back drivers/reinstalling drivers. Also, with 7 I see drive conflicts. If I use multiple jump drives or external harddrives I get conflicts with signatures and sometimes I have to manually change the actual signatures get them accessible.

Windows works well for most people, granted, that's why Microsoft is still in business.
If I could comare an OS to a car, here it is.

Windows comes wih all the comforts and some good styling, like a brand new car. But think of it this way. What if you buy a brand new car and the only way you can own it is in its stock form? You can't change ANYTHING mechanically, but only a few things visually.

Now, linux on the other hand, you get the car for next to nothing, and there are a few comforts, but nothing drastic, and you may have to find a way to make something work on rare occasions. But you are free to modify and personalize it however you see fit, visually, or "mechanically", and it costs nothing to modify.

Same reasons why the vast majority of the population likes to buy a car, they aren't going to do anything with it, just drive it and maintain it. But there are a select few that like to get the cheap cars and mod the **** out of them.
Just my $.02, and to each their own!

Def so. I'm not the type of person that is ok with being the same as everyone else. I have to modify everything from my phone to my car to my computer to my Gaming Console.

Same here. I don't like stock anything. Makes life a lot more fun to mod things.

i'm the exact opposite. IOS is ok for what it's intended purpose, but OS X is a beast. "Anything that i need for actual productivity is done with" OS X, hands down.

For the past few years I've had my XP machine sitting next to my Mac, and I just can't do what I want with Windows.

And windows 7 is just a bad impression of OS X..

Yeah I'll admit that using XP and some Vista software/apps on 7 can be a pain sometimes. A lot of older stuff like GPS' want drivers.

I'm really starting to hate Windows...I have XP and have had way to many problems with viruses and had to re-do the hard drive many times. This last time I meant to get an external hard drive because the hard drive sounded like a Jet engine on start up...got lazy...hard drive crashed...need new hard drive. I wasn't about to be one of those people that accepted the loss of all the pics and documents on the hard drive, so I took it to a computer wiz friend of mine and he did something with the hard drive and moved everything to an external. Original hard drive...dead, gone, finished. The more I hear people talk about Linux...the more I'm curious to try one.

Thinking of making the switch to linux and leave a small partition for windows to game with.

Gonna go with Ubuntu, or as Mike suggests, Mint.

And I have had zero problems with windows. Just gotta know what you are doing and not be an idiot. I have no virus scanners or anything like that installed and this thing runs all day no problem. Just wanna try something else. And I like free.
