Opinion on building track car ??

I have a 85' Mustang GT car is in decent shape. Mostly needs cosmetics.
Should I build this car into my weekend drag/cruiser ??

I wouldn't feel bad about stripping this car out.

Or I have the cash to buy something really nice.
But would feel guilty about thrashing it on the track.

Thanks for your opinions.
Mike

A fox is very cost effective to make go fast. As soon as you hit 1996 the 2v is a ***** to mod for good gains. I say build the one you got. It's a 4 eyed fox which already has cool factor and you can find parts fairly easily and cheap. Drive er...jmo

It's worth more than just a plain hatch. Yeah, you could cage it and sbframe connectors go a long way, but in it's stock form being a Ttop car it is worth way more than if highly modded. Your car, but if it were mine, I wouldn't go all out on a Ttop car because they are a bit more rare.

they made a ton of them so do what ever it is you want, just make sure if you take on the project you dont get half way through or half *** it and end up with a pile of junk. thats the key. track cars cost money, and even more after they actually get running lol because stuff will break.

Well the fox takes a lot of work and $ to make a fast drag car out of. 12's no problem. 11's gonna be a lot of work. 10's will tear that little car to shreads. The body is not that tough. A lot of welding involved. 10 second fox is a very scary ride too. Not very stable. 12 second street car fox is a blast though. 10's and 11's I would prob look into a new edge body or s197.

Re: Opinion on building track car ??

I think a track really is beyaon what I should take on as a project right now.
Am considering selling the 85' GT and getting notch that is close to stock.
Just build a nice street car, that I can take to the track every once in awhile.
Hell a stock engine with a On3 performance turbo kit would be perfect.
I could make 400whp pretty easy and reliably. That's a 10 sec car!?
And with the turbo I wouldn't need any crazy deep gears, could have a 3.08
or 3.27:1 and still get decent mileage on the interstate.

So I have $4k in the car fund, if I sell the GT for $4500 Could by something
pretty decent.
