Probably going to ditch Cable TV; Suggestions?

I am probably going to ditch Cable TV here in the next day or two. Not worth the outrageous cost.

I currently subscribe to Netflix instant but what else is out there. What about sports? I am going to get MLB.TV if I can get around the black out crap they do.

I don't think I want to pay for Hulu, do they still offer decent free stuff? I really want good picture quality, so keep that in mind too.

That is what I do, didn't miss a game I wanted to see all season last year. You gonna do an htpc setup? You gonna download shows or stream them? If you are going to dl a lot of stuff I suggest xbmc, if streaming, definitely boxee. Windows media center 7 isn't a bad choice either, especially if you want to record anything off the over the air channels, since it has a built in dvr, and boxee, xbmc, and hulu desktop plug in, as well as netflix.

Wha.......are you a doctor? That sounds like some good advice even though I didn't understand half of the lingo, lol. Streaming seems to be what everyone is doing now.

Hahah, nah. I have just done a lot or research on the subject because I am piecing together something similar. Lifehacker.com is a great resource for this kind of stuff. Great articles on all the things I mentioned.

I agree with ya that it's getting too expensive. Your bill for for 2 hd receives, 1 of which is a hd dvr and 2 regular outlets with just extentend basic plus the slowest speed cable internet is $120 / month.

Direct tv has a sports only package, you might want to look into that. I pay around $90 for direct tv and high speed internet through my telephone company.

Was gonna suggest DTV as well...but apparently you can't get it lol.

The HD channels are quite nice and price is still a ton cheaper than cable.

I have a bundle thing with AT&T phone and internet along with DishNetwork HD DVR and it's not too bad...the internet supports multiple laptops and xbox live and still stays pretty fast...

lol, you should discretely and without being seen/unnoticed, erect a pole somewhere in the apartment complex to afix a DTV dish to. They'll never know.

I have thought about it. I will probably be moving soon though. This place has gone down the tubes.
