Re: Scientists Make Objects Levitate

I read this a few times on Yahoo News and now on this, I still would like to see how small an object we are talking about and if we can control it.

cool...

we should place bets to see what comes first: teleportation or levitation of a small animal

Re: Scientists Make Objects Levitate

i would say levitation.

the only thing weve done teleportation wise is move a single molecule a centimeter from its original position. were quite a ways away from transporters like you see in movies. however with levitation it sounds all they need to do is take their current experiment, and make it bigger.

actually the man said at the end that levitation like in movies are still only for fairy tales, paranormal, and movies.

and i said the teleportation of a small animal... doesnt have to be alive... nor correctly configured on the other end lol.

Re: Scientists Make Objects Levitate

The most recent successful teleportation experiment took place on October 4, 2006 at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark. Dr. Eugene Polzik and his team teleported information stored in a laser beam into a cloud of atoms. According to Polzik, "It is one step further because for the first time it involves teleportation between light and matter, two different objects. One is the carrier of information and the other one is the storage medium" [CBC]. The information was teleported about 1.6 feet (half a meter).

In other words, when Captain Kirk beams down to an alien planet, an analysis of his atomic structure is passed through the transporter room to his desired location, where a replica of Kirk is created and the original is destroyed.

the original kirk no longer existed once the replica was made.

Scotty was able to get around the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the main barrier for teleportation of objects larger than a photon. This principle states that you cannot simultaneously know the location and the speed of a particle. But if you can't know the position of a particle, then how can you teleport it? In order to teleport Kirk without violating the Heisenberg Principle, Scotty used a phenomenon known as entanglement. In entanglement, at least three photons are needed to achieve quantum teleportation:
  • Photon A: The Kirk to be teleported
  • Photon B: The transporting Kirk
  • Photon C: The Kirk that is entangled with Kirk B

lol wow and here i thought i was the largest source of useless information on the site.....

i think however, you are not transporting the entire person as a whole, in many trek instances, you are only transporting them atom by atom, but at a superinfentesimal rate and recompiling them in the exact location at the destination. or something like that.

I'd go with a small animal, since I saw some guys levitate a frog using truck sized magnets or something on tv once.

fake edit: HFML, Levitation

it looks like they use a different method, but it still counts!

well ill be damned. the future is now.

whats next? dippindots will give up the "ice cream of the future" marketing strategy?

and as a side note.. why do all our discussions turn into star trek and star wars references haha
