My trademark "I had a shtty day at work" drink. A couple fingers of Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon, muddled with orange Angostura bitters and sugar. Also had to give my new soap-stones a try.

Do those stones really work? They're supposed to be like ice cubes right?

Yes and no. They cool it down like ice does, but whiskey/whisky/bourbon is usually opened up better with a little water, and all the soap stones do is cool. If you're going to use them, I'd also suggest adding a bit of water. I think I put maybe half a finger of water in mine to compensate for the lack of ice.

Ahh ok I'll try that. I thought people added whiskey to water for better flavor?

I used to take all of mine "neat", no ice or water. But then it was explained to me in a way that seemed sensible so I started using ice or water, never both. Basically all whiskys are kind of like pop syrup; concentrated. It's a bit thick and very strong by itself. Adding the right amount of ice or water lightens it and opens it up to its full potential. It makes the bite more bearable and you really get all the flavors.
I have a few that I'll leave neat, and I always try them that way before I try it with ice. But then there's some that make me breathe fire if I don't calm them down. But everyone has their tastes.
