Groan, this again.

I'm sick of my Alienware POS. I rebooted the PC and it won't load anything passed the window's splash screen. It goes to a blank screen and sits there. Does the same thing with Safe Mode as well. I put in my emulator to work it's magic like it did before when I had problems but it won't even load that. I am terribly pissed.

Re: Groan, this again.

Somehow it's working again, after dicking around with it..

I'm on Newegg building up a rig, my mom wants my PC to be ready for school coming up so she said she'd pitch in some cash for an upgrade.

Any suggestions?

Re: Groan, this again.

This is what I got for my newegg wishlist that me and my friend went over a few days ago

ASUS P5K-V LGA 775 Intel G33 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6700

Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

That's all I got so far.. I don't know what memory will be compatible with it, and I know I need to get a video card. As of right now, I'm purchasing parts. I know I will also need another power supply, and tons of fans.

I mean a LOT of fans.

Re: Groan, this again.

Alright, with the specs I have in total it comes out to around 1200-1300 bucks.

Last night I reformatted, but here's the ****ing doozey. I put in the windows CD so it'll load windows, and it's telling me I don't have a hard drive. That's real funny considering I can see it on the program I reformatted it with, and I can still see the folders and such. I'm so ****ing pissed off I wanna take out the garand and turn this thing into swiss cheese

Re: Groan, this again.

Why do y'all want "tons of fans"? You're much better off with two, maybe three, big slow 120mms. They'll move enough air, and your computer won't sound like a harrier taking off.

Re: Groan, this again.

I want better airflow going through my PC, and I've got a pretty small room that makes it even worse for the heat

Re: Groan, this again.

I use a single case fan... my room is upstairs and hasn't had air for 2 months. It is currently 101 outside and not much cooler in here. My computer is on all the time. I have not had any problems with heat, and i promise you, its hotter in here than your room will ever be.

Re: Groan, this again.

I hate my 120mm intake fan. **** the harrier, it sounds like a B52 doing a low speed flyby. i have 4 variable arrays, i run the 120mm on full blast (its louder the slower its running btw) only during extreme loads (Quake4, Fear, Prey, Doom3, Etc) to get more air. otherwise my two 80mm side fans are on one array, one pointed towards the processor fan, one to the video card. my rear 80mm's are each on their own array. then theres the 120mm power supply exhaust fan that i also turn on to get additional heat pulled out. we keep our house at like 67* and i always get cold feet, so when the PC is running at full bore, i can put my feet behind there and keep them all nice and toasty warm.

You must have the worst 120mm fan ever made.

Re: Groan, this again.

actually, i wouldn't get a g33 intel chipset. they've got a substandard internal graphics circuit (well, most internal gfx are crappy) internal graphics run from your RAM, instead of having dedicated memory, so you need at least 4 gigs to get half decent performance, and windows xp and vista (32 bit) can only see 3.7gigs of RAM, so that can lead to errors and crashes

not to mention that both p35 and g33 are only stepping stones up to the new p38 chipsets that come out next year

seriously man, go with an nvidia 650i or 680i chipset for now, or hold out for the p38 chipset next spring

Re: Groan, this again.

I actually went on line and went to some overclocking forums and found one that could take a lot of heat and power, I'm leaning on getting this one instead of that ASUS.

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

Re: Groan, this again.

You've either got a defective unit, or they're greatly exagerating the specs on that fan (and I'm betting on this, since the fan looks pretty cheaply made). The clear LED fans are usually made from a harder, more brittle plastic than other fans so they're more apt to make noises other than just bearing noise. If you're dead-set on keeping that fan, you should try using rubber bushings, fan silencer, or some vibration absorbing fan mounts. See if that doesn't help the problem.

I like Nexus's Real Silent fans for my normal fans. The Scythe S-Flexes (the medium speed, E models) are what I use on my radiators. They're not as quiet as the Nexuses, but they move more air.

Re: Groan, this again.

yeah youre probably right. I might look into those, right now im having heat issues with the stock heatsink/fan on the 6000+ (im using the same one from the 3800+), so i need to get something beefier, i toyed with going water cooling but eh. i think id actually like to de-rice my pc, go with a pretty basic case, fans with no led's, etc.

Re: Groan, this again.

i'd recommend a noctua or a sharkoon fan. they're both pretty quiet, and push decent air

yate loon and papst aren't as quiet, but they push more air

Nexus is good to. I use Nexus fans in my computer. Very quiet.
