Another gun thread... haha

I'm minutes away from jumping on the bandwagon myself.

Looking at a Springfield Armory 4" barrel .40 S&W. It's a really good price on it, but it's not the exact gun I wanted. I am trying to decide if I want to spend close to $100 more for the gun I want (sub-compact, 3" barrel, same caliber), or should I just go ahead and get this one. I'm pretty sure it's a service model though, and I really don't want a service model.

If it is the service model, I'll probably pass on it, even though it's a great deal, and just wait until the next paycheck and get the one I really want.

Any thoughts?

Looking at:

I've fired the 3" sub-compact before, and I loved it.

Also, the XD stood up to more than a Glock did during its torture trials. Neither the Glock nor the XD failed, but the XD had a tougher trial.

.40 cal is as big of a caliber as I can get in a gun this small, at least from SA.

I like the XD's as well. I'd wait for the sub compact if thats what you really want. I think I am going to go buy mine in the next month or two. It'll be a 4" model though.

Re: Another gun thread... haha

why don't you want a service model?

I had a Glock 23 witch is a 40. cal with a 4" barrel
and I traided it in for a Glock 27 40. cal with a 3" barrel
I thought it would be smaller and easier to carry. but than you have to add the mag. extension to make it fit your hand. so it's almost the same size.
but holds less ammo and with the shorter barrel the gun as not as accurate at a long range

Re: Another gun thread... haha

If you fired the other one and liked the way it felt and handled, I would wait for it..especially if you are going to CCW. Get what you are comfortable with, not what other people say is the best. One of the main reasons I ended up with a Beretta Cougar .40 over the 1911 or a Glock. I was getting with the intent of CCW and I got what felt the best in my hand that I was most comfortable with.

Now I do plan on buying a 1911. Not sure one what kind yet, but probably be looking for an A1.

Another pistol to check out is the H&K USP .40s. I shot one and like it. Bit more top heavy then my Beretta and a bit more squared off frame, again that is why I didnt get it for a CCW...But every hand is different. though it has a pretty nice price tag...like around the 600-700 range when I was looking 2 years ago.

my first posting as a new member, and it's about handguns. hhhmmm....
Thought I'd chime in aboutthe glocks. I am relatively new at the gun thing, just got my ccw in Feb. I bought a glock 26, which is the 9mm version of the glock 27. cheaper ammo, still hurts a lot if one hits you. when I was trying different guns at the range, I rented a glock 34, which is a long barrel, good for targets and such. then I tried the 26, and was surprised to shoot almost as accurately up to 15 yards. the short grip is not a good fit for a guy's hand, even with the extension, but I don't consider comfort as a top priority in a concealed type of handgun. I carry it with a 10 rd magazine, loading 6 rounds to avoid spring fatigue. I use a 17rd mag at the range.

Re: Another gun thread... haha

I haven't tried the subcompact XD but I've shot the .40 service model and it is a quality pistol. Shoots very nicely and has a pretty good trigger.

It was a toss up between the XD and M&P for me but I like the ergonomics of the M&P a bit better and think the M&P looks a bit cooler

by the way, the 2nd amendment has little to do with self defense and lots to do with protecting us from a government that oversteps its bounds

As has been mentioned, I want a gun that's comfortable for me to hide. Not necessarily one that's comfortable for me to hold for several minutes.

If I ever have to hold one, it will only be for as long as it takes for me to make it start saying "click" instead of "bang."

You will want to hold it alot..at the range to shoot it occasionally. That way you are comfortable with it, know what its like to shoot it, and become profecient with it. pointless to have one if you cant shoot very well.

I personally think something that would make a good CCW pistol is a smaller revolver. like a .38 special or a .357. Friends mom has a Tarus .357 magnum revolver with a 2" barrel I belive it is...kicks like a mule but it has some stopping power, very light, and easily concealed.

Re: Another gun thread... haha

whipster- I wonder how many other people actually realize this. The Right to Bear Arms was designed so that the government could not become a tyranny. As with the fashion of the Revolution, the citizens feared this as they did, adding other Rights they saw fit which they thought England had gotten wrong. People nowadays complain the government has too much power. I think if they really did, they'd be knocking down your door, ignoring basic human rights. However the solution to an over zealous government is to bear arms and overthrow it.

Take away my freedom to bare arms and you might as well allow the government to station troops in my living quarters and for me to care for them.

In short F*ck England.
