Upgrading Cell........

Any good slider styled cell phones out there?

im getting a bit tired of my SLVR and im either gonna finally upgrade and stick with AT&T (Ive been a Cingular customer for like 10 years now!) and sign a plan (ive been without an actuall committment since ive always supplied the phone whereas you have to commit to however many years if you buy one through them), or my cousin works for T-Mobile and i might sign on with them if i can get a sweet phone.

i really like my girls Chocolate or whatever its called. what irks me about cell phones is menu navigating and lag, i will be three steps ahead while my slvr is catching up to my movements (ive noticed this alot with Motorola's), whereas her Chocolat has no problems keeping pace with me. same with texting, my slvr has issues keeping up, hers didnt.

however id also like a phone that i can browse the internet and it actually looks like the internet (and no, not the ****ing iPhone), and it doesnt browse at snail pace (ie again, my slvr).

however the only thing i will have to get used to is the size of such phones. most of them are fat nowadays, almost 3/4 of an inch thick.

IMO Motorola>LG, AT&T>T-Mobile. Perhaps that will help?

I love my Motorola Q. Pocket Internet Explorer sucks, but with Opera Mobile, the internet is awesome on it. You can also toggle back and forth between "mobile internet" and "real internet" with it. Here is a quote from talking with Brent about ME on a smartphone, also the actual quality is excellent, the screenshot software just compressed it:

Re: Upgrading Cell........

Another vote for LG and VW. I love my 8300. I use it as an MP3 player all the time. You'd be amazed at how loud the speakers are and how good they sound for a phone. Just add a 1 GB Micro SD card and you are golden. I also like the fact that I can make my own damn ringtones for it.

Of course, all that functionality is locked by Verizon, but it is really easy to get around.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

Moto has those options too with an optional software you can pick up called MPT. In my experience LG has always broken and just been a poor performer. As for Verizon they just screw their customers over, make you pay for everything that you shouldn't have to pay for. The only up side to Verizon is they have great coverage.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

I was going to get that phone, but stupid me did what I NEVER do was fall for the hype and what not of the chocolate. The screen has now broken twice within 6 months. When I go in to get it fixed I am going to see if I can switch to 8300.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

The chocolate is the only phone that has broken not from me being too damn rough on it. And vzw has always been good to me. I don't use nor need a lot of the crap they make you pay for to use, and the stuff that I do want to use, there are ways around.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

I am also looking to upgrade, I am looking into getting a Blackberry.

the only problem is, I want it to have a camera, bluetooth ready, and VW programs on there. The only one that I can see that has it is through Cingular I think.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

Wow so I would totally go out and spend the 300 bucks to get this Blackberry but no camera?! I understand it's a business phone and ****, but I mean they made the Blackberry Curve for AT&T and it looks absolutely beautiful! Couldn't have it for Verizon?? Come on.. that put me in a sour mood.

Of course Verizon doesn't want a Blackberry with a camera, they wouldn't be able to charge you for taking pictures.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

well i bought it. talked to AT&T earlier and they said its no different than upgrading, since my contract has been up for about 2 years now. she said that once i get the phone, the paperwork that comes with it should have instructions on going with the upgrade and keeping the current number, if not, any AT&T kiosk can help. last resort would be just getting a new number, which in all honesty, really wouldnt matter much either, it might suck for the 5 people that actually call my cell to have to edit my contact info in theirs. 2 hour conversation, lady on the other line was totally cool, we walked through the Newegg site and she was amazed on how cheap everything was compared to retail stores. fist she was like "newegg, what is that?" and after it was like "ill never to go best buy again!" Newegg on the other hand, no help. Guy was like "you need to visit the help tab on the main page" im like "dude, i done been through the entire section, nowhere did it tell me if i get this plan, can i keep my number and work it as an upgrade through a normal AT&T kiosk or would i have to start up all over again! how can you sell a cell phone and service and not know how it works? i highly doubt im the first person who has asked this!"

nevermind...

iPhone cannot be ran through Verizon, the iPhone runs on GSM networks, and Verizon is a CDMA network.

Re: Upgrading Cell........

I don't think I would ever want an iPhone. Mostly cause call quality sucks, but also because the screen would ALWAYS be smudgy plus the fact that you can't download 3rd party programs for it.

Google maps, tons of different little games to kill time with, Opera (100x better than Pocket IE), programs to tether with (which technically violates Verizon's terms), youtube pocket, instant messaging, etc, etc, etc.

PS you know the "m" in Q9m stands for music, right? lol
