So, I'm looking at getting a Suzuki GSX-R600 or a CBR-600 once I graduate highschool, and I was wondering... Who has the cheapest insurance? I'll be 18... Who does it by displacement? Because I've heard some do it by that and it's way cheaper to insure a sportbike. (no bashing motorcycles or giving me stupid advice, I'm set on getting one, just need to save up about $4000 to get a nice one.) I have usaa but I haven't checked their costs... Also, if you have one, what's a good bike around 500-650cc? I like the sportbike look and the power is plenty as long as it's over a 500...

Any fuel injected bike is a good bike. They all have their little problems. As far as insurance. I don't know. I pay $435 a year for full coverage on a CBR 600. I have State Farm. From what I hear they are on the cheaper side.

Don't cheap out on the medical side...you'll thank me later. With insurance, you normally get what you pay for. If you're looking for the cheapest price don't expect service that's worth a damn.

I mean more like, which insurance should I stay away from... Some insurance companies are ridiculously expensive because it's a sportbike and they don't necessarily offer the best service.

Haha, I have a friend with a 99ish cbr600 and for some reason I like the look and it was definitely fast enough. And theyre really cheap and reliable.... Like I could get one with less than 15k miles for like $1500 if I shop around.

Re: Cheapest motorcycle insurance around?

I pay $412 a year for full coverage with a $250 deductable with State Farm for a 09 GSX-R 750, it was around $420 a year on my 03 Yamaha R1 and before that it was around $390 a year on my 98 GSX-R 750. State Farm and Riders Insurance go by displacement not by classification.

Progressive, Geico and others go by classification and / or displacement. When I bought my 03 R1 in 2003, I shopped around and progressive wanted almost $5K a year. I've kept State Farm and have had no problems.

Good choice starting on a 600, people can learn on bigger bikes but your never going to learn as quickly as with a 600 which are more powerful that what 95% of the people will every use.

I've owned, 600's, 750's and 1000's...keep coming back to the 750's, best of both worlds.
