Glock. Just be careful not to cut yourself on the slide if you have a cowboy grip

Re: which pistol?

i believe theres a grip that prevents it though, but the 19's handle is already very thick

Home protection (and shoulder devastation) requires 12ga.

Or go between the two. I'm a big fan of the 1911 style .45. Call me old fashioned.

I'd hope so, considering our defense budget.

Re: which pistol?

im in NC, still want a pistol and like to shoot. the only problem i have with the G19 is the finger grips that come on the gun. but i can deal with that. ive seen people use a dremel to get rid of them. it works but the gun looks goofy

Re: which pistol?

Not to derail the thread, but what is the process for a concealed carry license like in your state? I have had my concealed carry license for over 2 years now and all I had to do is go to the courthouse and get a background check.

I have a 9mm colt 1911 70 series government model. I love it.

yeah ours is pretty much just as simple.. go to the sheriffs office, fill out an application, background check and then take a concealed handgun safety training class

Also don't want to derail the thread but I was curious if there was a specific brand .45 cal 1911 I should go with. It will be my first personal pistol and will be primarily a range shooting pistol and a secondary home defense to accompany my 12 gauge. It will also be my first pistol.

I just have to send off a letter in the main with 20 bucks and about a week later I am renewed for the next year, the first year (initial year) was just as easy.

Re: which pistol?

I really like the looks of Ruger's new SR1911. It's a sub-$1000 1911-style pistol, which quality ones are hard to come by. I've got a Taurus PT1911. It's not as high-quality, but I walked out the door with it, and 100rds of ball .45, for less than $500. My latest acquisition was a Sig Sauer P220 Carry. It's not exactly a 1911, but it is similiar. The fit and finish on it is as good as any handgun that I've ever had. They've got a price tag, though.

well if you want a TRUE 1911, the only way to go is colt IMO.
they range from 800-1200 for a decent used one
I have my trusty Remington 870 and a smith and wesson .38 special

Re: which pistol?

In Oklahoma, you take a conceal carry safety course. You fill out the app at your local sheriff's office. They do a complete state and federal background check. Then you pay either 100 bucks for a 5 year license, or 200 for a 10 year license. Why they do that makes no sense to me.

I've shot all kinds and brands of handguns, including glocks. I personally like Springfield's XD line better. The important thing to remember when buying a handgun, is that everybody is different. Something that one person is comfortable with may not be what you are comfortable with. Find a range that rents out handguns to use, and try a bunch of different ones. Find the one that you're comfortable with and that is easy for you to shoot and control.

As for a good 1911? There are many companies out there that make quality 1911 pistols. Kimber, Para, Colt, Taurus, Ruger, Springfield. The question is how much do you want to pay? A high end gun can cost you 1500 bucks easy. But a reliable range gun can be found for a lot less. Especially if you are buying used.

As always, these are just my opinions. Yours may very.
