Might be getting into the motorcycle game

I have been thinking about getting a new ride for daily duty. Mostly because the mpg's in the Jeep are t3h sux0rz and also partly because I am starting to wheel trails on the weekends that if I screw up, I might not be able to drive it to work on Monday.

I thought about buying a fox coupe roller and dropping the drive train from the 64 in it (since its been out of the car for almost 3 years anway). But that also means that I would have 2 project/drivers with bad MPG. After thinking that through I decided a bike would be kinda fun and gas mileage would be awesome.

While I'm not completely set on any bike or style of bike, I do think crotch rockets look the best. I don't need an extremely fast or powerful bike (A. cause its my first and B. cause its just a commuter than needs to do 80 on the interstate). I found a 93 Suzuki Katana 600 for $900 that I like. It looks to be in good condition in the pictures and plan on calling the owner later. It looks nice also, aside from the ugly HULK airbrush job on it - however, I have always wanted a satin black bike, so I will fix it, haha. Is this a good deal? Will it be ok for a starter bike?

(insert crap about being a squid here so that we can get to real discussion faster)

not really though. just cause its not a newer fuel injected bike doesnt mean its going to be trouble.

i didnt have any issues with my 95 Ninja 500. only thing with cold blooded (carb'd) bikes is youre gonna have to wake up 5-10 minutes early to account for having to let the bike warm up first. however if you live in a warm environment as opposed to a cold one that number is a little different.

however 50+mpg owns. i filled my bike once the entire 3 months i had it, cost me a little over 9$. bought it for 1000$ and insurance was 230$ a year. got a buddy to sync the carbs for free, and me and a buddy adjusted the valve lash, and she ran awesome. 600$ on gear and sold it for the same amount.

IMO sounds like a good deal :thumbs2:

that'll be a great bike for a starter, and just the right price as well.. be careful. don't go cheap on your helmet, if your riding in the city get a full face helmet, i've caught a few rocks to the shield from cars' tires in front of me, this is not so much a problem in the backroads as you don't have to hug so close to the car in front.

that sounds like a fine bike man. as long as the miles aren't waaay up there, i'd go for it. i'd probably want something newer and i'd save a little longer if that's all you can afford, but if that's the year/mileage bike you're looking for, a carb'd bike is fine and so it an older one, and so is a katana. keep in mind you'll be spending some $$ on helmet/jacket/boots as well though. the gas mileage does own, as well as the experience.

Re: Might be getting into the motorcycle game

Well, probably won't be getting a bike real soon now - my parents aren't paying me back the money they owe me this week like they planned I am still looking something in the $1000 range since its essentially a beater, but I find a 2002 Buell 500 for $1000. Not as badass looking as the Zuki, but lower miles, newer, fuel injected, etc. Also, with the amount I drive and with the gas mileage I get in the Jeep, a 1 grand bike will pay for itself in 4 months, lol.
