I Hate my Intrawebz!!!!
So recently its been like every night i get connection issues around 11ish that go on through about 2-3:00am. Just randomly my Router will lose connection, or something.
about 50% of the time when i get kicked (and all other PC's do) i lose contact with the router and cannot log back in, after about 10 minutes i give up, either go to the router and reset it (which fixes it about 30% of the time) or play something offline (Lately its been SimCity2000) till just magically the internet comes back up.
the other 50% of the time i can get into my router (LinkSys) and refresh the connection, most of the time it fails to obtain a IP adress from host. Then i have to walk to the modem itself, and reset both (Modem and Router) and that usually fixes the issues.
My service is 6mpbs down from AT&T (Used to be SBC/Yahoo), we were out of contract and started having issues (our old 3 year was for like 256k down @ 35.00$ mo when DSL first came out to our area) now we upgraded and still issues.
My hunch is the Router. My buddies all have the same plan with AT&T and no issues, they download torrents at up to 500kbps, i can still barely get over 50kbps even with the best seeder/leecher ratios. They have 2Wire router/modem combo units, but their connection from their 2Wire to the wall is a Cat5 cable, mine is a standard telephone jack with some filter on the end (both standard phone cord, one says DSL other has a Phone logo). Im thinking the modem i have (Old Speedstream) is probably seen its days, however according to dad when he made the call he asked and they said the modem has nothing to do with speed. So does that leave us with faulty Router? I dealt with this **** last year and picked up a new one and that seemed to fix it, but its back again, guess ill just pick up another :dunno: boggles the mind though how my download speeds are basically **** compared to everyone else. takes me about a day or two to download a album, and about a week to grab a movie or game.
btw it kicked me twice typing this.
