Went to lunch with a buddy if mine from work and got the ricer flyby from an Escort in heavy, heavy traffic. Primer black, big metal bench wing. I chased it through traffic, got behind it and was laughing so hard at it I saw the driver get all pissy, give us the finger, rev to the sky, dump the clutch and LAUNCH this thing at the green. Like I said, packed traffic. So incredibly stupid I only started laughing more.I'm still a little giggly.

Me and my cousin had a similar experience n his 69 Stang, we were at a Sonics eating at the little window service thing wen I little rice burner pulled up beside us, he started talking about how he had a $100,000 car, we did the nice, cool story bro thing and he got ticked, he says y don't u put down ur fries and race stoplight to stoplight, being the proud man my cousin he is, he said ok, so we pull up to the light and did a burnout b4 the light turned, the ricer tried and he couldn't do it, so instead of racing, he turned off, lol wat an idiot

Re: Idiots R- US

A few years ago I'm driving home on a hot summer day with my 2000 (Zinc yellow) GT convertible. Listening to music and in general enjoying the day. I'm 2 stoplights from home and some kid in a 01-05 civic is sitting at the light -- and we're in the pole position. I'm checking the car out -- I actually had helped my son purchase an 03 civic very much like the car this kid has so I'm more or less admiring the mods when the smoked glass window rolls down to reveal a teenager who's attempting to look as bad-*** as possible. My mods at the time (from memory) -- BBK X-pipe (catted) with flowmasters, CAI and 3.73:1's. The kid makes a motion like "Let's run em". There's practically no one else in front of us -- just open highway for about a mile so I thought "what the hell. Maybe he has nitrous or something." Light changes -- I miss second gear. I still dust the civic like an old bunt cake. I get to the next light and it's red. I wait. Kid pulls up. I'm like "What did you think was going to happen back there?" and he says "I have dual exhaust." Sure as s**t, I watch him pull away (slowly) and this kid has a carbon fiber hood, dual exhaust and some rims on a bone-stock 1.7 liter (not even v-tec) LX civic. Prolly spent more on just the tips and bumper than I did for my entire exhaust on my car.

I've had my share of Hondas (I bought a TSX for my wife last year) -- they're great cars and some of them are even fast. I don't see a lot of these supposedly fast cars though -- I'm guessing the really fast ones often are down for things like connecting rod repair and half-shaft replacement. After owning a few CRX's all I can say is that you can get them to perform, but during the entire time I had them I also owned a mostly stock Mustang GT that never left me on the side of the road broken down -- something I couldn't say about the modded CRXs. Parts were way more expensive (a set of half-shafts will run you more than a decent drive shaft for a GT, for example). I did enjoy the way my last CRX handled -- it was a fun car to drive. It was also worse in the snow than the GT -- it had less space and I found the car to be less practical (and more dangerous -- which is ultimately why I listened to my wife and sold it).

I understand the tuner mind-set and appreciate the effort that goes into it. At the end of the day, it's very similar to the mindset of people that are tuning cars that tune into these forums. They're more like us than different (The true tuners) -- but a bone-stock 11 or 12 GT is going to be really hard to catch up to when you're starting with less than half of the displacement Ultimately, I'm sticking with the Mustang for a host of really good reasons -- for one, you're starting with more (of everything). Sure, the car weighs a bit more -- but there's so much more going from the start. You start flying from a much higher altitude with these cars.

But does a newer Mustang need a body kit to look awesome? Or any tuning at all for that matter, to be fast?

I'd argue that for the money, you're going to have a really hard time beating that equation. And you're going to have a warranty to back it all up.

Well while I don't mess around in traffic during the day, I do take a four lane home that is absolutely desolate at night and tends to attract the boy racer(ricer) kids. I probably whoop one a week just because they fly up on me and want to do a pull. I enjoy the rice scene, because none of them in town are actually fast, and they actively hunt me down to catch their whipping. A few of them are respectful, but most are just little jerks that get all pissy when you yank them by two buslengths. They all meet at the Checkers/Rallys in town(seriously lol) from time to time and I have crashed that party with a friend in his Dakota that runs a low 16. When you can't run down a v6 Dakota, it's time to switch scenes.

I've seen Hondas in the 12's for around 10 not counting the car, which I'm sure was dirt cheap. Only thing is the reliabilty. They just buy a 1.8 non vtakk motor, buy a forged.rotating assembly, get it built by a machine shop, buy axles, and run tons of boost. They go boom pretty quick. All because they dont want to start with something that has displacement. Idk. 10 grand under the hood of a mustang is low 11's if not 10's..

I would put money on being able to get a Coyote into 10s with 10K under the hood.

Easy. Even the 4.6's should be able to hit low 11's. 10k is a built DOHC, blower, gears, drag radials, and little bolt ons if you spend the money wisely.

Re: Idiots R- US

Hey, don't discount the "Fads and the Furrious Effect", whereby the laws of physics and automotive assembly are somehow toasted (and mixed in with lots of NOS) and the resultant reality is one where a weekend of wrenching and drug-money-fueled oriental parts makes anything with a Japanese logo capable of "hella fast", warp-speed velocity. After the release of any of these movies I have to put up with morons -- kids that are willing to risk high speed maneuvers in traffic heavily laden with grandmas and kids in minivans.

Most recent encounter, driving my 11 Cobra home in heavy traffic and some idiot with an older evo and a Huge fart-can wants to race. There's not even space for me to shift into another gear let alone run this idiot but what's he do -- rides along side me for better part of a mile acting like a complete brain-dead, petal-stomping trog. I finally made eye contact with the driver and twittled my finger like "whoop tee do" style, laughed and then continued paying attention to traffic. He of course roars off -- I'm sure he's telling all his idiot friends how he dusted a cobra. Prolly the source of some of the z06 and zr1 dusting you read elsewhere here -- most Corvette owners are more my age and less willing to drive like idiots (there are exceptions in every category though).

Anyway, all I'm saying is that every time hollywood comes out with one of these nitrous wet dreams I spend a couple of weeks either being harassed in traffic like the above -- or re-educating the morons about displacement at the front of stoplights.

I loved my Honda -- but I love my Mustang much more. After putting over third of a million miles on v8 Mustangs in the past 15 years or so, all I can say is that there's a lot of value and that I'm not slowing down anytime soon (and neither is Ford for that matter).

Not gonna quote, but I have to say I own and love my Civic sedan. It's old, dented, faded, and chinsy. It also has 280k, original motor and tranny, AC, and all it needed along the journey this far was head gaskets and CV axles. I've next-day avenged my Honda before by commuting with the Mustang and surprising people too.. Usually after getting harassed by some jerk that sees a civic and thinks I'm rice.

I'd have have to agree with the general consensus here and say that I've got respect for the guys that *tastefully* modify their ricers! I also think that they make a great daily driver car. It is really annoying when they come up to me and want to go for a run down on the interstate. Usually I either toy with them or ignore them. Not much point in wasting my gas!

I don't know about you, but blowing the doors off the arrogant ones is always worth the gas. They just deserve it so much.

It can be. Rice is a style, not a make/model.

+1. Import is any car not made by a domestic company and I think "tuner" is a modded import (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Rice = race inspired cosmetic enhancement, its a style that incorporates useless crap in an attempt to look or sound fast.

Thanks... I learned something new.... always thought of "Rice" as actual rice because of Asian production and they eat lots of rice.

Lol Idk. That's the definition for rice that I saw on some other forums from a long time ago (don't remember which one). If its wrong, please feel free to correct me. I don't want to be spreading bad info.

Ok....well today was my first experience with a ricer ******. We started off the convo talking about his phone (I'm a phone salesman) and how his dumb underage *** broke it. Then he moved to where he was moving to (Dayton Ohio) and how he needed to trade his two Hondas (del sol and civic hatch) or a (unknown year) suburban with "26 inch rims" so he can "blend in" and he also mentioned how he carried his friends pistol with him whenever he went to Dayton... Apparently one of his cars is a single cam with nos thats a 12 sec car and would blow the doors off my mustang.....

I kindly informed him that if he was going to carry a pistol with him in his car that if he were pulled over and his car was searched for the police stereotyping him as a wigger drug dealer with his suburban and 26 inch rims and loud stereo that do not blend in with anything. That he was going to go to jail for having a pistol in the car and being under 21 with no ccwl. Also that his friend would go to jail as soon as they found out they were his guns for giving them to a minor. And I started to give in, I said "and as for the Honda....ya know, never mind, have a nice day..."

God I hate young kids now....I'm only 29....

Also that his friend would go to jail as soon as they found out they were his guns for giving them to a minor. And I started to give in, I said "and as for the Honda....ya know, never mind, have a nice day..."

God I hate young kids now....I'm only 29....
Sounds like an idiot ... FWIW carrying a pistol in Dayton (I live in the area) is a GREAT idea, just do it legally or your will find yourself in "federal pound me in the *** prison" as Office Space puts it.

I've run into lots of 12 second Hondas. They usually run 15s.
