Sad Sad Sad Day for me and my family

My companion, my friend and buddy ... Spook. My Black Lab... I had to put him down today. Hardest thing I have ever had to do.... He died in my arms and I seriously have cried more today than I have in the last 20 years combined. He was 11 and he will be missed... greatly.

Yeah... thanks. Not sure how to handle this. I have never lost anyone really close to me before and it hurts bad....

Old age basically. He was 11 and for a 120lb Lab, he was older than most. Heart problems, arthritis, hip displasia. It just got to be that time when I had to make the horrible(Y) humane desision that quality of life was no longer there for him. He was in alot of pain......... he died in mine and my oldest sons arms, so he knew he was loved up to the last breath.

Thanks everyone........ he was my buddy... that is for sure. It is hard to fill that void now as everything reminds me of him, like going outside and seeing him behind the fence wagging his tail, or eating dinner and passing the leftovers to him, or sitting the couch and not being able to wake him up for snoring too loud...lol. it is going to take some time.

It will defenitly take time, but the beautiful part is there is another one out there waiting for you. And it will have a completely different personality.

Sad, sad news

Sorry to hear about your loss. 2 yrs. ago I too had to put to rest my 14 yr. old chihuahua mix Sprinkles, the most adorable female dog ever. I still miss her a lot and cry from time to time. Not ironically we cry over our pets more than we do over some humans. I still have Bruno, who is also a chihuahua, but a male and he is 6 yrs. old. We do everything together and I don't want to think about the day that I will have to part with him too. An 11 yr. old boy once told me: "don't get too attached to your dog because you'll hurt a lot when he dies" damn was he right !!
Take care and know that you're not alone.

This is so Hard

4 years ago we had to let our Chocolate Lab, Husky, Wolf mix Ellie go to heaven. Still makes us cry if we think about her too much. Said we wouldn't get another for awhile. We missed her so much. Went to Weaverville to pay the property taxes a couple of weeks later. We had a little time to kill, so we went by the animal shelter to see what was there. Long story short, now we have Gypsy. Boxer, Yellow Lab, Pit mix. 100 percent curbstone a friend calls her. What a sweet heart. I'm sure there's one out there that will find your family when it's time. And some time will heal the pain. We wish you and your family well.

Very sorry to hear of the loss. My son is attached to his black lab; that dog goes everywhere he does. They are loving loyal pets.
Will another one be in the family eventually?

Sad Sad Sad Day for me and my family

They aren't called man's best friend for nothing. The unfortunate thing about dogs is their life span is so much shorter than ours.

Adventure till you drop.

Never paid attention to the date either. So glad you found the dogs you have now. Still hurts when you think of your old friend though I'm sure.

My son has a Catahoula. Beautiful dog. My wife keeps telling him she's going to thake the dog. Very sweet dog. My understanding is that this breed comes from Louisiana, and was bred for hunting hogs.

The Catahoula is a Louisiana bred dog, but the purpose of the dog was initially for body retrieval. Since the majority of Louisiana sits on a very low water table the area is prone to flooding. Back in the day when the floods from storms caused coffins to surface and subsequently.... bodies to float away the dogs would be released to go retrieve the bodies and bring them back to solid ground. The dogs have incredible strength and stamina. Folks down here now use the dogs as "Pig" dogs. Catahoula's are incredibly intelligent and work well as pack hunters which serves hunters hunting wild pigs well.

Really sorry for your loss. Went through the same thing two years ago with my service dog. My brother went through it three months ago.

I won't sugar coat it. It doesn't get any easier as time goes on. You just find new and better ways to cope with it. I still keep pictures on the fridge and in various places. It hurts, but yet I always end up smiling when I remember what happened when the picture was taken.

He was loved, and I'm sure he wouldn't change a thing. You did what any good dog owner should do. Bravo sir.
