Compatability

Since this isnt directly Mustang related I thought Id post in here. Sorry if its the wrong are. I was curious what all it would take to swap in an 03 Cobra motor into an 03 Crown Vic? Numbers show 390hp on a stock blown Cobra motor which would be plenty for me as a DD. Obviously the motor is common sense, Wiring harness, would the Mustang ECU work with some re-pinning? Or would I be looking at tuning the Vics ECU for boost? TIA sorry again if its in the wrong section. Been a while since I was active on this site.

Thats a strange one.. I'd assume you are going to need to swap the entire harness and ECU along with the engine and transmission. I have seen a lot of manual swapped Crown Vics so I believe you can pull that off, but in the end I must ask- why??

Re: Compatability

You will have to swap harness/ecu at a minimum. It should, theoretically, fit, however.

Re: Compatability

From further digging due to too much free time Ive found that Id need to delete the ac/or notch frame and a tighter clearance oil pan. As far as reasoning. Bone stock supercharged motor will be more reliable than a boosted SOHC 2V with powdered rods. 390hp would be plenty for me, so swap, tune, done. Something peppier than the stock 250hp 2V and a 6 speed would keep me happy in a family DD. I was thinking that or Cobra short block on 3v heads with an M112.

Why on earth would you put 3v heads on it? That would be like bypassing the sc pulley just to be different

Re: Compatability

Im guessing that means the 2V heads are better then? Just assumed the extra valves would be better. Using the entire Cobra motor with the DOHC heads would mean Id have to eliminate the AC, which I cant do with a 2yr old.

The extra valves do breathe better. However you have to change the timing cover and intake as well and that makes it tough to justify spending the money on it.

Re: Compatability

Well I planned on starting with a short block, and buying the parts to finish from there. No matter what heads, I'd be using the M112 upper/ lower etc.
