Tq wrench... inch lbs or foot lbs

My wife picked up a 1/2 and a 2/8 tq wrench yesterday for me while they were on sale for half off. The 3/8 drive is in ftlbs. Should I trade it for an inch pounds. I will be using it for doing spark plugs and other things of that nature. I assume ftlbs will work as good~ just wondering.

Any input?

ft lbs will work for spark plugs if its good down to ~10 ft lbs or so If you're going to deal with supercharger removal/install, upper/lower intakes/valve bodies on transmissions then it'd be a good idea to go inch lbs

Shouldn't 2/8 just be 1/4?

Re: Tq wrench... inch lbs or foot lbs

spec, you want an inch pound wrench, as you never want to use any settings near the first and last 15-20% of a wrench's spectrum, it loses alot of acurracy there.

you should also buy a very good quality torque wrench if you ever plan on doing any bottem end work or head installations... very important stuff, I think you know how I figured this out

BTW the 331 is running great and is a real beast, still untuned though... scary enough for my foot!

I hear that! my set of drag radials wore out so put normal 245 street tires back on, can't even floor it in second, once the car hits 3800 RPMs it goes squirrely

Gotta love it man!!

Re: Tq wrench... inch lbs or foot lbs

Ft Lbs Torque wrench is good for tightening heads and such but using on spark plugs is overkill considering 24 in-lbs is 2.4 foot lbs. Most ft lbs torque wrenches are not accurate that low. The common pratice is to use a torque wrench in the middle of it's band for a more accurate reading using the bottom or top 5% of the torque wrench min or max reading is where most often they lose there accuracy.

Re: Tq wrench... inch lbs or foot lbs

I think my plugs are 10ftlbs so it wont work good in that case as its lowest reading is 10ftlbs~ maybe they will have one and let me swap it sometimes this week when I can go.
