I mentioned this in another thread but I remember when I was under 25 insurance on a v8 was not an option. Only place you could get insurance through was the state and it was outrageous.

Insurance is a depressing topic. At one point I had a Hayabusa, a WS6, a Jeep, a Dodge Ram, and a couple of enclosed trailers.

I am pretty sure I paid a couple executives salaries.

Today I have the 02 GT convertible, a Grand Cherokee, and my truck has been dropped to liability only while I search for an engine.

The really messed up part about things is that I currently have a clean driving record, yet I pay as much to ensure the Mustang as I do the truck and Jeep together. The car is 14 years old!

I think the only things vehicle age saves you on is Comp and Collision. Liability shouldn't matter. You can kill someone just as easily with a 40 year old car as you can with a 2016.

Don't tell the insurance companies that. I'm looking for an edge here.

I have progressive and pay $93.00 a month for my 2012 Mustang V6 and my 1988 Suzuki Samurai.
Mustang = full coverage
Samurai = Liability only

I did pay more but I put their snapshot in my Mustang for 6 months and the rate dropped About $42.00 in a 6 month period bringing it to the $93.00 a month.

Does the snap shot watch your speed as well or does it just watch your mileage?

It watches everything you do. Speed, miles, braking. If you drive conservative it will lower your rates, if you jump on it from time to time, or more frequently, your rates could go up.

I can't do USAA since I'm not involved in the military. I thought about the snapshot thing but the way I drive it would go up. I think it looks at throttle and braking points, maybe even steering input.

What made you smile today...?

I was stopped at a red light, & this woman came squeeling around the corner holding her phone to her left ear with her right hand & (barely) turning the wheel with her left hand.
I pulled over & phoned the police & reported her. dumb **** ****!!

I wonder if it would be cheaper to drive with NO insurance, since I never need it, & pay any tickets i MIGHT get lol
& IF I had an accident, the insurance company won't pay you anything anyways, right?

& all the $ i saved on insurance I can use to make payments on a new(er) car

If you were to finance a car you will have to have proof of insurance...or no loan.
Although I would never tell someone to drive without insurance....it's up to you and I guess if you are single and have no family....it's your call. If you would get in an accident that was your fault you could spend the rest of you life paying for it.
I personally don't think it's a wise decision.....IMHO

This is how I feel about health care insurance. I never go to the dr, but I have to pay thousands a year for nothing. And if I do go to the dr I still end up paying enough to make me wonder why I have insurance. Seems like it would be cheaper to save all that money and pay out of pocket in the event I ever needed something serious medically. But thanks to Obama that's not an option

no, i know, but the write off most vehicles because of the labor costs, even if it's a new vehicle with minor damage, it seems to me.

Maybe you all need to move the Pacific Northwest....2 cars, 1 truck, 03 Terminator and 63-1/2 Falcon Convertible....all for less than $170 a month.
New ATS-V, new RAV4, new Silverado, agreed value of $30k for the Terminator and $35 for the Falcon...first three through Alstate and the last two through Heacock.
Of course it may have something to do that my wife is over 55 and I'm over 70...!?

Keep your insurance doesn't matter liability or full coverage. You always need something.

I've never had an accident but i would hate to have one and not be insured.

I lived in Northern California, Redding, Stockton and finally San Jose for 16 years and when I moved back to Oregon in 2014 my insurance dropped by over 30% not to mention car licenses that dropped by over 80%.

It's an option to skip buying insurance. The Feds just earn a little more in taxes. Obama's BS is a joke.

Hey Gravydog,
Before you go without insurance, Find out the consequences in your state.
In Florida when you get stopped they check for insurance, If none found, They take the plate off of your car.
If you can't find a tow truck to get to the scene before the Police tow, ((( USUALLY IMPOSSIBLE))) Your car will be towed to the Police impound yard.
You can get your plate and car back after paying the storage if in the Police lot and show proof of insurance and show a receipt you paid the fine.

Ronnie

In British Columbia you get your plates from your insurance so there's no way not to pay for it. And you get your registration stickers from them as well. So no sticker= no insurance either.

---------- Post added at 03:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------

And having insurance isn't always about how good you are it's about how ****ty other people are

I pay about $300, but that's ny choice. Full coverage for the extra property damage coverage and things of that nature. Also I typically have 7 people in my vehicle majority of the time. Had liability once. Boss lady hydro-planed totaled car and state property (guardrails) damage and it cost about $60k including medical bills. Not enough to all lost wages. I count that x 7 people and not including if we hit or someone hits us and is under insured.
Rather be caught with extra then caught with very little.
