What is the perfect amount of hp/tq for the street

What do you consider the best hp/tq for the street on a DD mustang~ with just DR's at best. This will be in RWHP/RWTQ for a Mustang.

600/600 is about right...enough to be streetable, and yet enough to handle most things you might run into.

Re: What is the perfect amount of hp/tq for the street

depends. for me, just the point to where only 1st and 2nd are fairly useless, and you can still run pump gas. most cars and setups will be limited to around the 500-600 range under those parameters. i think it would be sufficient to be able to take the 98% of the cars you come up against, save for maybe that 1000whp supra that everyone talks about but nobody ever sees, maybe a C6 ZO6 or Viper or the like.

all the super supra video's ive seen were from Texas (DFW area). Building a 1000whp supra in cali would be next to impossible if you want to keep it street-legal, you would literally have to pray everytime it came out of the garage you dont get pulled over and reffed, maybe carry a box of krispy-kreme's at all times.....you know.........get on their good side when they pull you over!

From my understanding...if you aren't at a dyno, you won't find any of them.

I would say the more the better, how could you not want 600-700 rwhp for your street car. could you imagine every red light you stop at would turn into a drag strip.

there's a supra here at school and that thing is, admittedly, quite awesome. it has some very wide DD's on the back and a nice drop and who knows what else..

500 has always been a number that stood out for me. If I were to get a Cobra, it's where I would stop at, and where I'll get the v6 one day when I'm ready to build it how I want it.

yeah im hoping thats what i dont say half a year from now. however with a car i pay on monthly, i really dont want to push it (like with the GST), make it drive like crap and lose reliability just for the sake of a little more power and/or bragging rights.

Yeah, I said that too....I also said I would wait till the warranty expired...and yeah, none of the above have held true. I guess I have no will power.

Re: What is the perfect amount of hp/tq for the street

the problem is that their will never be enough. what happens is you get used to the power you have and it loses the thrill factor it used to have so you have to get more to get the same high just like a drug addict but your addicted to horsepower. and you can never OD

I know weight has a ton to do with it, so just assume a mustang for reference~ I think 500/500 is about the limit of usable street hp/tq down (in the mph range) cuz when you try and use it you spin

Hell...im at about 400/400 and I dont have traction for ****.

get better tires.

from a 1st gear roll if i roll into the throttle i cant get my rears to break loose. only time i can get them loose is if my intent is to create gobs of smoke, or i fubar'd the launch.

only time i have trouble in 2nd is when its 50* and under or if its wet.

and the more i think about it, the more i talk myself out of doing anything to the Cobra. i dont want to jeopardize its current state (which is pretty much reliable as hell) just for the sake of a few ponies, especially seeing i still finance out the *******, and its my only car. i will likely not do anything come spring, leave her how she is now (maybe still get some gauges) and get a second car to build. looking at either yet another dsm or a fox, something cheap and extremely moddable that i dont have to rely on.

Re: What is the perfect amount of hp/tq for the street

I do need better tires.... just a matter of getting around to it. At the current rate of how much I drive my tires will last me forever so I will just have to stick my stock rims to the side and buy new ones (what I am hoping to do) with better tires.
