Talking New Pup!

Got me/Brad a new baby to keep me company today! He's a 5 week old purebred husky.

Tryin to name the baby now.. I'd like to stay with something Alaskan/Native if at all possible. Ideas? post em up!

SO HAPPY! He's absolutely precious. Sleeps alot right now, but he did have a VERY busy day. hehe.

This is the only pic I could get tonight since I'm in Tupelo, sans camera.. so I scanned a poloroid. I'll have better pics once I get him back home to Starkville tomorrow.

Love!

Re: New Pup!

Cool dog! Those dogs need LOTS AND LOTS of exercise. I hope you have a big yard. They were bred to be working dogs. They don't tend to have too many health problems, but they shed really heavy twice a year. Just a little heads up. I've had a few of those types of dogs myself.

Re: New Pup!

We've been thinking about one for a while.. He'll be exercised well.. trust me.. lol..
I've got a pretty good side yard at my apartment, and once we get our house, he'll have plenty of room. I'm excited about him.

Thanks!

Re: New Pup!

Awesome, Huskies are amazing dogs. Congrats.

Here is some stuff I came across for names:

Alaska Native Language Center -- Alaska Dog Names

I vote miki, meaning little because that would just be awesome to name a Husky little.

Re: New Pup!

Awwww girl!...he is SO sweet and adorable. I'm so happy for you guys!! What an adorable puppy, he is beautiful. Congrats!!! Lucky for him, he got great parents, haha!

As for names, these are my picks:

Sakari (means "sweet" in Eskimo). Looove that one.

Denali (rises out of Denali National Park in Alaska).

I also love the names Myloe & Myles for him. (not really Alaskan, but they fit him well, I think).

Have fun with him, puppiest are wonderful, I can't wait to get one too!

Re: New Pup!

Mama was talking to her sister and spilled the beans.. lol.. so Aunt Jan says.. "Hey, let's call him Colonel, in honor of Max!" So far it's stuck.. he responds better to the sound of 'Colonel' then to any of the other names I picked out.. I may end up calling him 'Sir' for short as well, cause he likes that one too.

And.. as promised.. camera phone pics!

OMFGYESHEDOESALLTHEDAMNTIME.

haha. I knew it was coming though.. he's just a babe.. he'll get over it soon. He actually slept through the night for the first time last night! Unless he woke Brad up sometime and I just slept through it... lol.

We're both excited.. he's got alot of promise.. he's already catching on to some commands.

Re: New Pup!

y'know.. I just thought of this...

Those of you who have owned huskies...

Did yours get a little 'wet' in the rear with a diet change? I've got him on puppy chow now after the people who had him were feeding him some kind of canned food. He was violently sick the first night I had him.... and what came up was definitely too rich for a pup. Since I put him on puppy chow (1 cup moistened for softness at each meal) he's felt a whole lot better and had much more energy.. but last night and this morning when we went out, his poo was a little runny. Would that be just the diet change, or is he drinking too much water, sick, too much/little food? This didn't really happen with my poodles in the past is why I'm asking.

Thanks!

Re: New Pup!

yes, you changed his diet too suddenly. the way to do it is to keep buying the canned stuff, and start mixing in whatever you want to change to over the course of a month or so. it'll keep things familiar enough for his digestive system to adapt

it's been the same way for every dog i've ever owned. my mom used to breed shelties and great danes, and it was the same with my sisters yorkie, and now her hovanese. it's just a dog thing
