hes doing exactly what i am doing. your DD is reliable but still has balls, and your other car does not need to be as reliable, but still has balls and you can abuse the **** out of it, and come monday morning you are still getting to work in style.

i couldnt do the other way around, have a ****ty pos for the daily drive and only a nice car for the weekend. i would hate driving to work mon-fri in some pos econobox, i love driving to work every morning with 400-450whp and a smile on my face.

if you plan to make the fox handle dont dump a huge *** heavy motor in it..that will just screw up the front and make it way to heavy.

this is true.

for a turning application, IMO id get a injected 5.0, heads/cam and all that good stuff, put what, 300whp down with a h/c/i 5.0 and spend more into handling.

I'm not overly concerned with how the fox can turn...the only thing it has to do in my mind is run hard and sound nasty whether idling or WOT.

If I want to take a corner, I already have a car ready for the corners...the Cobra.

If I want to go real fast in a straight line...I want to be able to take either one out.

And, just to clarify...the new acquisition will be my DD in its current hillbilly form only. Once I start to restore it, it will no longer be the DD. I will have an econobox by then. My only desire is to get the cobra off the road so I can finish it up and not worry about it sitting idle with no motor/tranny and still have to get to work.

Once the cobra is done, I will start restoring the fox...in the mean time, I will drive the **** out of that little 4 banger and investigate everything that needs to be done to it repair wise.

Because it's unnecessary.

If you want 800+ rwhp, go for it. Otherwise, just build a 351W based stroker. Hell, you can easily get 400+ rwhp with a forced induction 302 based motor. The extra weight and hassle of a big block is totally not needed.

Re: Bought a New DD and project car today

I'd kind of like to stay N/A on this one though and not run any boost...

Still a good couple years off yet before I put a motor in it I'm sure...

You can still easily make 450+ rwhp with a 351 stroker N/A.

I never understood that "daily driver" thing just keep the miles off. I can see it if the thing isnt easily driven on the street since its set up for a track, but to park a car to keep miles off it is dumb to me. You buy a car to drive, not to sit and look pretty. Its a depreciating asset and should always be viewed as that way. I would hate not driving a car that I love... forget that.

this is true, however if the market is full of cars with 100k+ miles on them, and you pop on yours for sale with 30k on the clock, guess which is worth more?

He could just be trying to keep wear and tear off the car, not to mention you can do more engine work without the fear of not having a ride come monday morning. Personally, I love not having to drive the cobra on a daily basis. Gives me something to look forward to after a bad day.

Nice score also you can get women like crazy if you cruise that in a trailer park.
I will admit the big block ideal is bad for it to much weight, but the 10 foot burnout is impressive.

It was a direct result of the asphalt grinding 88 BHP....nothing to be messed with.

Re: Bought a New DD and project car today

Well, the DD idea lasted all of a weekend....

DD plans have been aborted. Tear down began this weekend, the dash and some insulation is all that remains in the interior. All moldings and trim has been removed from the exterior...the lights and dash will come out over the next day or so...the motor this weekend once I Find a place to dump it off at.

Here are some pics of the car from today...

Updated Pics

I think I have found the best of both worlds in a motor. After looking at some prices on big blocks vs small blocks....I have found a way to get them both. I figure I am about 6-12 months away from needing to worry about a motor, but right now I think I am going to go with a Man-o-War 460 CI small block...that's right...small block with big block displacement.

Anyhow....it was a nice dream while it lasted...the daily driver idea that is.

Time to strip it down all the way.
