Yay Lowes...

So...I just signed the lease on a new apartment closer to work and with covered parking. It's nice and all. Decided to go out and buy a new washer/dryer. Roommate and I went to Lowe's Monday night and bought both and had them delievered and installed by Lowe's on Tuesday.

We haven't moved into the new apartment yet, so I ran by earlier this morning just to see if they've fixed anything on it yet and a maintenance guy is sitting outside. It seems the hot water line going to the washer was not connected right and flooded the downstairs apartment.

Since we had it delivered and installed by Lowe's I see no problem with them being liable for the damages from their faulty installation. Went by and spoke with the manager at the Lowe's and he said he'd see what he could do...so...I'll keep ya updated on whether Lowe's is a bunch of crooks or not.

BTW, we're probably looking at several thousand in damages, it ran for a while.

Re: Yay Lowes...

That blows! Sorry to hear that. Was it a Lowe's employee or do they contract their work to a local installer?

Home Depot contracted a different company when I got my Fridge put it.

Re: Yay Lowes...

It was Lowes employees, 2 of them, that installed them. The only real reason we had them installed was we're on the 2nd floor and really didn't feel like toting those things upstairs. Lowes came by about an hour ago and took pictures of everything, so we shall see what happens next...

How hard is it, seriously, to install a washer and dryer... I have done it many times...

Very hard since we have that new fangled indoor plumbing stuff. It sounds like it was a little too hi-tech for the installers and they did not receive the proper training.

Gotta be careful with new technologies....they can burn you.

Well Lowes just called, they're claiming it's not their fault. This is gonna get interesting. I gotta wait till I get off work b/c I don't want to say what I'm gonna say in my work clothes...

Basically said well you have run the washer since we installed it and now it's on you...

Re: Yay Lowes...

they are full of ****... get a lawyer to send a nice letter to them and get them on the move... they know they are at fault they just want to see if you will go on about your way and take the responsibility, also dont touch any of it dont try and fix anything. Get pictures of it all and input from everyone in writing that was there.

In a place you haven't moved in yet? Wow, that's a pretty bold statement. The Apt. Complex should be able to verify for them that you haven't moved in yet.

Either way, whether you ran it or not, um, they messed up the install....not you. It isn't your responsibility to go back over their work to make sure it was right. The assumption is you are having it installed because you are too dumb to do it yourself usually....so it is not on you to know whether it was right or not.

Good call on not going in your work clothes though.

I'm in Jackson, MS. I'm gonna attempt to get this solved without having to use any lawyers. I have a few acquaintances that are in the Mississippi Bar, so that shouldn't be a problem.

...going to talk to the apartment manager today, she wasn't in last week. Just going to be clear that I'm not paying them a dime, if they want money, attack Lowe's.

Re: Yay Lowes...

O yeh, got a call from Lowe's corporate yesterday. They pretty much agreed the installers were morons and said we'd be taken care of.

Good deal. Corporate is usually a lot smarter than the managers at the stores.

Re: Yay Lowes...

The conversation went about like this:

Him: This is Lowe's in Jackson, MS correct?
Me: Yes
Him: Ok, that explains alot. The installers must have not been very bright. We'll make sure this gets taken care of.

Meh, I'm not big on suing. I've sued a large company before...too much time and work involved without alot of money on the line.

Re: Yay Lowes...

And I just got off the phone with my apartment manager, she was out of town last week. Pretty much, they overreacted. She said even if Lowe's wouldn't cover anything it wasn't enough damage to worry about charging me with. So yay, problem is not solved.

glad it got solved, most of the time places like that will spend 20,000 dollars to keep from giving you 500
