Alabama Engage in Beer Debate

Alabamans engage in beer debate - UPI.com

Quote:
Seventy-five years after Prohibition some Alabama residents are trying to overturn laws prohibiting home brewing and the sale of high-alcohol beer.

A 750-member group called Free the Hops has introduced legislation to legalize home brewing and permit the sale of beers with an alcohol content of up to 13.9 percent by volume, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

Currently, whole categories of beer can't be sold in Alabama because state law prohibits any beer with more than 6 percent alcohol content.

BeerAdvocate.com says that law puts 85 of the 100 top-rated beers in the world off-limits for Alabama residents. Forbidden brews include dark Russian stouts, Scottish ales and the legendary beers made by Belgium's Trappist monks.

Opponents of allowing higher alcohol content beer cite practical, as well as theological, reasons.

The Rev. Dan Ireland of the group Alabama's Moral Compass has warned lawmakers that allowing high-alcohol beer in the state will make it easier for teenagers to get drunk.
Good old ignorance.

lmao. Teenagers don't drink good beers, like the kind currently prohibited. Teenagers drink Bud Light, Coors Light, Natural Light, and the like. Cheap, light, and yellow. Or they drink ***** beer.

Re: Alabama Engage in Beer Debate

lol Milwaulkee's Best and Nattie Light are the staple of any teenager's alcohol consumption...$3 for a 6-pack...cheap beer is good beer when you are young lol...

Besides, if it was about "getting drunk easier" for teenagers, I would just go buy some Bacardi 151, Turkey, Everclear, Aftershock, whatever...and so-on and so-on...its cheap alcohol that is means something to a teen, not the alcohol content....

but beer tastes better so you cant allow that to get any higher alcoholic content.

When I was underage, "getting the expensive beer" was getting some Budweiser. But whatever just another reason to add to my list of reasons to move back home at the earliest possible time, and get out of this state.

Re: Alabama Engage in Beer Debate

I really hope this goes through, or else I am going to start running beer from the neighboring states and make a killing. Bring back the ole days of whiskey running and such lol. Now all I need is an orange dodge charger...

well kids add liquior to coke, kool aid, or whatever and you can pretty much drink till you fall over then.

Re: Alabama Engage in Beer Debate

lol beer with that kind of alcohol content is going to be just as expensive as hard liquor so theres no benefit for teens there, they want cheap party beer like Natty, Coors Light, etc.

you cant play beer pong or drinking games with hard alcohol or heavy beers because you wont last long!
