Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

I am thinking my next car might be a G35 Infiniti. 6 Cyl car with about the same MPG as my mustang, but with 300 hp and a very sleek and luxurious interior with a GPS. I could get one used, like a 2006 G35 Coupe with GPS and around 25 thousand miles for about 25 grand. It's pretty impressive, and pretty cheap.

the Pontiac G8's are pretty nice. i drove by one at the stealership the other day and it looked mean as hell sitting between two goats and a C6. If i had to finance a car of that type and that price range it would be either a G8 or a TL-S. G8 are supposed to sell like at 35k iirc.

My friend just got done looking at 06-08 G35's and could not find one in good shape for much under 30... overall they are nice cars though just to expensive for the performance you get. They do offer more luxury though to make up for it.

I test drove one - it truly is an amazing car. Its VQ engine is supposed to be one of the best v6s.

yea ive been thinking that too lately, but ive always shifted at 3k cuz it kinda felt like the best point. seems like the engine gets a little boggy when the rpm go to like 1200 after a shift. so shifting at 3k always kept them up to around 2k when it dropped back down after the shift.

I shift by feel as well, i don't rely on the tach.....usually its between 2 and 3k rpm.....stock gauges are usually not that accurate anyway

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

I checked out the G8's and the CTS's and they are all pretty expensive. G35 prices are dropping now that Infiniti no longer sells them, instead all they have are the G37's. Well, they have G35 Sedans, but I like the coupes more.

I may test drive the G8 and compare it to a GTO though. The LS2 GTO's are pretty nice, performance wise and interior wise.

the insurance for the g35 coupe was enough to make me not want it anymore haha.

I get around 14.5 -15 mpg in town with my Bullitt 01 but I have a few mods though. I also get around 22 mpg on highway.

I just read on some MPG website that the average 2002 3.8L Mustang driver gets an average of 16.3 MPG. Yuck.

That's ridiculous. I used to top out around 30 stock and around 32 after I modded it.

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

^^ I just eaked out ~220 miles on my last fill up...and I took it down to just under 1/8th tank. That was with a lot of controlled driving as well....and on my "safe" tune that runs 2* less timing and less fuel.

Or it's my 60# injectors and BAP @ 30% boost...and the fact I do about 200 miles a week in constant stop and go traffic...where it takes me 45 minutes to go 17 miles down 70 mph interstate.

for what its worth my mom and I test drove a G8 last weekend (for her, but I drove) the salesman was very pissed at us afterwards.. I must say the car is a blast to drive, plenty of room inside.. and handles great, to boot...

The exhaust note and 6 speed transmission were top notch

haha i have to shift by RPM if not i find myself at 3k more often then not...

the times ive actually set cruise on the interstate i can get anywhere from 26-29 depending on how fast (WV and IN limit is 70 and OH limit is 65) but i usually TRY to go 5 over if im using cruise... it truly is amazing what a few RPMs can do... but this also isnt in a cobra...

I wish I could use cruise on the way home...well, I could, but I would have to set it at about 10 mph...and would have to keep hitting resume every few seconds after breaking. I usually just idle in second and end up creeping up on the guy in front of me...

has to be, methinks as well as others that the mail-order tune is off (its by amazon though). when i bought the car back the plugs were gapped huge (couldnt get over 4500rpm due to ignition breaking up) but other than that they were still pretty clean last oil change, but ill prolly change them again. might see about finding a local dyno capable of doing 03/04's and have them check out the tune. Gotta wait till the GSX is on the road and out of the garage first.

Find a Car

2006 Ford Mustang GT

15 City - 22 Hwy

2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe

17 City - 23 Hwy

Same horse power, better gas mileage, more luxurious... I think the Infiniti is wining me over

Woah... were did you get those gas mileage from? Maybe if you had 300 pounds of sand bags in the trunk of the GT. If you could fit 300 pounds of sand bags in the trunk of the GT... I got more like 19/26 in my '06.

The G35 numbers look really low too.

20-28 grand for a 2006-7 Ford Mustang GT or I can get a G35 Coupe for the same price range, but more of a mid 25-28 for the Infiniti and get a much better interior and sleeker design to boot.
