lol you pay my gas and it's a deal. By the end of the week here, it should be about 4 bucks a gallon for unleaded.

Sure. The 2-3 miles extra per gallon you get by not getting a Mustang will surely be make it or break it for your bank account

all the G35's here are starting at 30k$ for 07+. iirc someone got a fully loaded 07 GT for just under 29k out the door.

GT is faster too. FYI with my 02 GT (which should be slower than a 05+) i ran a G35 UPHILL over the grapevine, 3 times out of 3 i just walked away. we reached the flat area before the downhill side and i just layed into him and didnt let off until i was around 145ish. subsequently afterwards i got a speeding ticket for doing 80 on the downhill side about 2 minutes after he finally caught up and did a flyby on me.

So you gotta put things into perspective on what you want. G35 is obviously a far nicer car, better amenities, looks, mileage, more refined, etc. the GT has heritage, it has power, it has balls. If i was looking for a nice DD in that price range, it would be the G35 (knowing that i still had another weekend car that was a performer so performance is not an issue) but if i wanted a car that was a good mix of everything (IE if it was my only car) for that price range, GT all the way.

btw after yesterdays 200mpt glory i filled up again, $4.14/gal for 91. i think it was $58 to top it off (usually 50$ when its under $4/gal nt to mention i usually get gas the second the light pops on, since im usually not trying to break my own mileage records)

lol I remember that story, damn that was awhile ago. We'll see how insurance looks on either car, it'll be another deciding factor. I also am getting a bit older and I'm starting to want to have something comfortable and more for my money.

If you're really that worried about gas mileage get an econobox and call it done. In other words, stop whining and man up or just give up. Your choice.

I don't care what gas costs (even though 87 is 3.45 here right now), I'm gonna keep driving the same way I always did and just not worry about it.

Gas mileage plays into part of it, would you rather get a car that gets slightly better mileage and the same horsepower as the other? It makes sense to me.

3.45? Holy christ I wish it were that low here

Ours was that....now it is in the 50s somewhere....premium is mid 80s now.

That $700 civic is sounding better and better every day....no matter how dirty it makes me feel.

I'm trying to figure out how to word an email stating that when gas hits 4+ per gallon for regular that I will need to work from home at least one day a week. I'm already running my "safe" tune so I can run gas other than Chevron when needed...and I can't drop to 87....

Mine is 38 miles round trip...it isn't so much the miles as it is the stop and go traffic...it takes 45 mins to an hour to go the 19 miles one way...that's a lot of stop and go.

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

I have to go maybe 3 miles each way to work. However, My girlfriend lives about 10-15 miles away, Brent and Mark are like 30 miles away. So work is fine. Anywhere else I go after work is rough. Not to mention, we are moving to a new shop in June, which is right down the road from Kim's place, so that will triple my commute, not to mention how bad traffic is on any road at those times of the day.

Perhaps I didnt come across superclear and what I was trying to say. Everyone has their price, simple as that.

Lets say gas was 10,000.00 a gallon... would that be high enough for you to give up and stop driving? Not to say it will ever be their anytime soon... just a point I am trying to make, there always comes a point where the returns are not worth the investment. Maybe for some its 3.00 a gallon... for others its 10.00... hell for some super rich people 10,000 a gallon might be worth it.

You're right to an extent....however, gov't officials have no limit as they do not pay for their gas anyhow...they would just raise taxes to make up for the added cost.

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

If you guys haven't heard about it.. 139 mpg vehicle.

Tesla Motors

These guys made an electric car that can go 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

It can go on 220 miles on a full charge, and to charge it takes 3.5 hours.

Battery replacement after 100k miles, less than 2 cents per mile.

100% Torque all the time, 13,000 RPM

The only ****ty part about this whole thing is that it's got a sticker price of $109,000

If it were 50 grand or something I would sell my car immediately and get it.

how do they calculate MILES PER GALLON on a vehicle that does not use a liquid for fuel?

Electric cars sound dandy and all right now, but put one of them in even 1 out of 10 households sucking off the grid every night and they will just create more issues than they are "fixing". not to mention once the energy companies see all this useage they will just bump up the rates per kilowatt/hr, so while you might save at the pump, they will just rape you at the plug. not to mention all that energy has to come from somewhere.........

Telsa motors will be awesome once they figure out how to make the cars cheaper and once they get their transmission issue under control (IE multiple gear drives, right now its a 1-speed because no tranny can withstand that sort of torque and rpm for long and not cost half the price of the car itself).

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

Well not only that, but did you hear about the new laptop batteries that are in research? Instead of normal cells, they act like a sponge. They said instead of a normal battery going on for like 2-3 hours or something, you'd be looking at 12-14 hours or even more. And considering that the battery they have for this car uses the regular ones we all use in our laptops and can do 220 miles on a full charge, something with the new laptop batteries would be able to do a ridiculous amount of mileage.

And I agree, they will be awesome once they figure out how to make their cars cheaper and get more of their own mechanic shops everywhere. Did you read how there are only 5 in the nation ? Luckily one is going to be here in LA (that wasn't too much of a surprise though).

They probably calculate the MPG by the wattage.. or something... probably has something to do with a flux capacitor.

I drove 380 miles over the weekend and I averaged 21mpg. About 100 of those miles was not interstate and not driving for good gas mileage.

Re: Gas Mileage Discussion

I'm curious as to how the new Dodge Challengers gas mileage will be with their cyl displacement........ and if it will also be on their 6 cyl..... though I kind of doubt it.
