Laptop?

So i bought this cheapie lappy about a year ago for DSMlink, the woman had it for the longest time until i had to borrow it for my buddy's car, and she doesnt use it so im like "**** it, ill figure out something to do with it". So lately its been hooked to my garage stereo and ive been just streaming music with it, and using it to look up random dsm **** or pics while working on my car.

and then one night i brought it inside and was watching TV with the laptop on my lap and on my forums and whatnot, and i realized i havent even touched my PC in like a week, except for now, because its ****ed up (one ram stick randomly died and the battery wont charge due to the ****ty jack).

now ill be the first to say i freaking hate laptops, but the more i use it, the more i realize that unless you are gaming (which im not, i havent played a actual game in a few months, and nothing good is coming out), PC's are pretty much overkill.

So i might sell my PC Setup and get a Dell Laptop. Looking at a 1720, 2.0ghz dual core, 4gb ram, 17" glossy widescreen (1920x1600 - 1020p HD capable), Vista Home (i have a Dell emulating version of Ultimate though.....), 256mb 8600GT, in Ruby Red (to match the Cobra!) for like 1300$. Also looking into ClearWire's 50$ deal where its just the PCI card or whatever and you have intrawebs literally anywhere (great for in-car Google Earthing so i dont get lost)

So i dunno. I usually hate laptops but now that mine ist kaput i miss it

i have an IMAC G5, MacPro with 17" screen for home use, and i use the notebook more than the imac as i can chill on the couch while watching tv, and at work i use a dell XPS, so i can work and its tough enough to take to a job site , powerful enough to run my 3D design programs, has a long enough battery i dont need it connected to my truck the entire time. plus i can hook it up to the antenna on my yukon and get satillite internet. DELL ROCKS if your gunna skip Apple. apple makes the best computers PERIOD.but none of my design programs work for mac, and i dont feel like spending the cash to convert them.

Re: Laptop?

As far as premanufactured PC's go, Dell is the only place i will buy from. The above Dell 1720 should be good enough to laugh at Autocad or the like.

Re: Laptop?

I've been in the market for a few months for a new laptop. My now 5 year old dell laptop is starting to bite the dust. Can't decide between the XPS series with the 12 inch screen or the Toshiba series with the 12.1" screen.

Gonna run dual core processor and at least 2 gigs of ram in whatever I get, other than that I'm not real worried about it.

Re: Laptop?

I broke my laptop . I need to pull it apart and see if I can't fix it. Solder might be involved.

Re: Laptop?

i have used XPS's for years now, just bought a new one about 2 weeks ago. its amazingly fast. plus that 1 gig of video memory coupled with the 2.8 intel core 2duo and 4 gigs of ram. really lets those 3-d design programs shine, thus makeing me more money since i can get very detailed. i love DELL. but i love my mac more.

Re: Laptop?

i love my custom built asus laptop. its not godly by any means - but it allows me to play high requirement games on respectable graphics anywhere. it still has decent battery life too (2-4 hrs depending what im doing). it was about 1200 with shipping and everything - not bad for a 1600x vid card, 2GB RAM, 2.0GHz dual processor, and 7200rpm HD.... and that was like a year and a half ago. it cant be upgraded but its standing its ground.

Re: Laptop?

i think they look pretty sweet and the concept is good, but they cost too much still for them to be feasible for most.

Re: Laptop?

Hp sells notebook tablets, unfortunately a lot of them are AMD powered.. but otherwise the new tablets are actually pressure sensitive. So you could draw on it as if you had one of those other tablets that are USB powered.

If you get a chance to see them most every Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys, and Costco has one. They have a different mouse pad than other laptops, and I really like it.

i like them for pratical matters. but they are not powerful enough for my laptop computing needs. i like to play games on a trip when i fly so i like power. i also need portable power when im on a site showing a family what their new house might look like. i mean it would suck for it to freeze right in the middle of their new kitchen. 2:

You can look through my school notes and tell what kind of mood I was in from how thick my writing is, lol.

I love my tablet, if I get another one it will definitely be a Toshiba, this Gateway blows, but the price was right so I won't complain and I have a 4 year business warranty so when stuff breaks they over night it to me and send out a tech to install it. Plus, the Toshiba uses a much better digitizer.
