Got a job...

...yesterday with Astec industries. W00t!!! it's just a summer internship because i have 2 more years of college, but it pays a helluva lot more than dairyqueen, lol. i interviewed with them like 3 weeks ago for the position and they told me there were others trying to get it too, so i didnt get my hopes up. i'll be a mechanical engineering intern.

Astec Industries

also, here's a couple final renderings of a project me and 3 other guys did last semester.

and an animation of it in action:

(the begining is just the assembly, but the end is a pretty sweet animation)
out final report was over 200 pages!

Re: Got a job...

Congrats. Internships are a huge advantage to have when interviewing for a full time position, too. I just graduated with a ME degree at the end of March. I had 7 job interviews and 7 offers over the last 2 weeks. Companies love experience even if it is "just an internship." It's definitly a good time to be an engineer looking for a job.

BTW what software did you draft that in? I looks kind of like Autodesk Inventor from the animation?

Re: Got a job...

^yep, the animation was done in inventor. we used solidedge for most of the part files/assembly, but animation was better in inventor. also, i think i'll be using solidworks at astec.

Re: Got a job...

congrats man.

internships are awesome... not only do they pay well, give you great resume material, but it also gives you leverage on the company. next summer you will have them by the balls - they already invested time and money on you and know you are a part of their assets - they can let you go, or be competitive with salary expectations. make sure to interview with other companies, get offers, and then negotiate to get a "fair" salary.
