My dad's surprise birthday present

Hey guys, so for my dad's birthday (May 5th) my brother and I got him a few World War 2 DVDs, and my mom got him a cake..

and we also got him a certificate to fly for half an hour in a B-17 Flying Fortress that Saturday, but we didn't tell him until an hour before he went up to fly

Here's the full description as to what happened and video.

Quote:
For my dad's birthday, we surprised him with a certificate to fly in a B-17 Flying Fortress for 30 minutes thanks to the Collings Foundation.

We first told him we were going out to eat breakfast at the Hilton Hotel in Burbank. But during the week he read the newspaper and found out about the flights and saw they were going to have tours available.

So we told him we'd go see the planes after we ate breakfast. He got dressed up all nicely thinking we were going to eat at this fancy place, but we kept stressing it might be a good idea to take a jacket.

He finally gave in and got his jacket.

We started driving over to the Burbank Hilton but got off early and started driving to the airport. When he asked where we were going, I told him, "I figured we would go see the planes first." He got angry about it because he was hungry and thought we had "reservations". Of course I never even bothered to check to see if they did.

So when we got there, he was upset, hungry, and cold. That's when we unveiled his surprise present and he started grinning like a little kid.

He loved the flight, was a bit surprised how small the inside of a B-17 was compared to how they show it in movies. Thanks to the Collings Foundation for such a memorable experience and making my dad feel like a kid again.

Re: My dad's surprise birthday present

It was pretty incredible watching a B-17, B-24, and B-25 start up their engines and take off from the run way. They even have a 2 seater P-51 Mustang they altered so people could also ride in that. Except it was 2200 for 30 minutes, and 3200 for a full hour.

I was able to ride in a B17 when I was a kid as part of a school field trip. That was great time. I'm sure he enjoyed it.

We had a ww2 air museum that put on an air show every year. During the air show, it was $50 a person for a 30 minute ride circling the county. We were there as part of a history field trip and were able to go up in groups as part of it. It was pretty bad ***.

Whoa that's a pretty sweet deal. They also had a B-24 and a B-25 over there, but they didn't look at all that interesting.

I'm going to make another video soon, a compilation video of my dad's experience and pictures i took from the ground using my SLR camera with some classic 40's world War 2 music playing in the background. One of my favorites, Comin in on a wing and a prayer.
