Exactly! The car packs 400+ hp, and yet it's possible to get 26 mpg or more! It's phenomenal Granted, it's not always easy to get that high--my highest mpg is 19--but for a V8, it's awesome! Lots of stop and go in my area, so it can't be helped.

I don't know very many car enthusiasts in my area as you can see.... I guess that's why I'm here lol

That 26 rating is just straight highway driving. I might be wrong, but I do believe the new 5.0 is rated at 18mpg in stop and go type (city driving) traffic. So you hitting 19 is extremely good, I only get about 17-18 in the city. Lol

Uhh... Well, I don't hit 19 ALL the time, but it does happen whenever I find openings to use the cruise control. Otherwise, I actually average 17 mpg a majority of the time.

It's okay. It means we're driving it right

That's why we all here! Thats def cruising the highway btw, but still good! Cool thing about the centri is that it whistles at low RPMs so I still get to hear it under normal driving conditions or I'd def not be getting decent MPG haha

I don't see why others can bash on it. The 4.6 and the 5.0 are relatively the same motor. Not to mention if you build a 4.6 right, it'll rev higher than a 5.0 could imagine. I have affection for both engines. Deciding between the two is really just personal reference.

+a million.. 5.0 owners that disrespect the 4.6 really don't know what there talking about, all they know is ayy I got a 5.0 so your 4.6 is crap compared to mine, I've seen many many many 4.6s eat 5.0s alive, also vice versa, but a modded 4.6 like stanglover said, will make a 5.0 want to cry with its revs..

I think the source of the problem is the man-like need to have the biggest motor. The "I have bigger pistons" phrase is rather irrational. Or it might just be the number 5.0 is a primitive number while the 4.6 seems as if its "unbalanced" from the perspective of some people. Eh, just guesses.

I guess I do have a bit of that "man-like" need lol! I certainly have a thing for high hp numbers.

I just like the sound difference that having more cubes usually make.

when people look at my engine they assume its a big block due to the massive 4 valve heads, but its just a 281 4.6L most dont believe me lol.

The 03 cobra was just a 4.6 but got 24mpg highway and made more hp/tq than the new 5.0L (just had to have a SC to do it lol)... yea I know they were rated at 390/390 but thats not exactly accurate. Either way was good back in 2003.

All the 4.6L hate comes from the 96 version which was a down grade from the previous 5.0L motor.... ford even underrated the 93 5.0L to make the 96 look good (droped it to 205hp so the 215hp 4.6 would look better lol)

Anytime you have a massive performance change such as the 2010 to the 2011 you get this sort of thing, just look at the 99-01 cobra vs 03-04 in terms of popularity and price and you can really see the drop off.

Its simple math
2 + 8 + 1 = 11
3 + 0 + 2 = 5

11 > 5

DONE!
