Just got pulled over for the first time in the stang. Being that I just got the car the other weekend (not even 2 weeks ago..and since i traded my truck for the car i threw my truck plate on so i at least had a plate) and I get paid on Thursday (which is when I planned on going to get my plates and registration). Doing nothing wrong just driving through town, cop decided to pull me over blah blah. Threatened to tow the car due to the truck plate and gave me a ticket and told me to take it straight home and didnt want to see me out until I have proper plates. In which case I said would you rather me have no plates and he said no I don't want you driving it at all, so I proceeded to ask about the 30 day grace period after purchasing a vehicle an he gave me some bs on that and told me again to take it home and not drive it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 30 day grace period to get the proper plates for a vehicle after purchase?

Sorry for the long explanation, just a little irate over the situation considering I've had multiple cops tell me in the past(I know quite a few from family friends) you have a 30 day grace period.

Even if there is a grace period you still cant just throw some old plates on there and go. I believe thats a bigger fine than no plates at all. It makes it look like your trying to hide not having plates and tags. It would probably help to lose the tude against cops aswell since you obviously were doing something wrong. Id be a little suspicious aswell if i ran the plates on a mustang that came back to an f150, wouldnt you?

Why didn't you just get them to transfer the plate over?

just go to any tag place and pay $10 for a 30 day temp if needed to keep you legal till you can afford full plates and testing (if you have it)....as for throwing the plates on....that's a no-no grace period or not. around here in TN there isn't one...you either have a temp plate or a full plate

Well I know you get a temp plate from dealers but not from private parties(ie Craigslist, individuals). But I did go ahead today and go get them. I just was never fully aware of the plating issue I had last night.

Check your local laws. MS has no temp plates and 7 day period.
