Been thinking about getting a daily driver and enjoying my MGW by putting it through the paces. God I love this thing...Travis you need to pull the trigger on one. It really makes that much difference.

I'm no longer a workin guy. I can't do my job anymore due to 6 surgeries on my leg. Going to college now to get an easier job and go way in debt so I can spend the rest of my life trying to catch up lol

Since my last posting, I did a little MT-82 experimenting... I installed the Barton 2-post bracket and the Whiteline tranny mount insert. I get a tad bit more tranny noise inside the cabin, but it's not bad enough to change anything. All the shifts are definitely better and I no longer fear 2-3 misses. The tranny mount insert is a definite improvement. Feels much more firm. I may later install the Barton short throw, but I'm satisfied with the current setup for the time being.

I also got tired of the noisy tranny itself. Sounded like the case was made of rice paper. I hated hearing each shift with the windows down. Somewhat embarrassing in traffic as well. I swapped the fluid back to 75W-90. I can live with cold weather shifts, as I have with all the other manuals I've owned over the years. The original weight made a difference. The plug magnet was cleaner than I expected it to be too. She's quieter now, but not as much as I'd hoped for. Guess I'll just live with the remainder.

I went a little further than the installation procedures called for and pulled the entire mount off to eyeball it more closely. It's not as spongy as the OEM shifter bracket, but it wasn't all that firm either. The insert pretty much makes it a solid rubber mount now. I had to lube the insert and drive it in with a rawhide mallet. After driving a hundred miles or so with it, I think it's an improvement.

I don't understand why ford put a bushing in the tranny mount with freaking holes in it. For 30 bucks and a relatively easy installation it may be worth it to just go for it. I'm worried about added nvh though

I have one of those sitting on my dresser lol. I got it in last week or the week before but haven't installed it due to me waiting on my new transmission but I'm going to the track tomorrow. How hard is the install? Is it worth getting up at 5 am and installing it before the track?

Yeah, it's a piece of cake. 4 crossmember bolts and 2 tranny mount bolts with the tranny supported on a jack. Lube it up, install it from front and put her back together.

I can't tell you how much it improves by itself. But if it means anything, I was cruising around 35mph tonight, downshifted from 4-2, stomped it to 6800 and she slid right in 3rd, then 4th, like it's supposed to. I'm tickled pink.

It was easy lol. Y did I wait? :p I'll let y'all know how it compares at 7500 at the track. Before I got locked out at 7500 even with the MGW BC it was torquing the trans. I'll have an update after tomorrow

Idk why they did that, other than trying to mask the noise from below. But, I'd bet the noise increase I experience is mostly due to the 2-post bracket. It is solid now. I just happen to think, I've got a small piece of R-11 insulation in the garage that I'm going to pack in under the console cover and around the shifter. I hope it will quiet down the cabin noise some. If not, I'l try something else.

Yes the holes reduce the nvh but let the trans flex. For your everyday driver it's OK but when you are pushing it, it allows flex. Hopefully this will help, for $32 shipped from Hypermotive it's worth a shot. I'll let you guys know tomorrow

I don't think I would put fiberglass insulation under there. I might try a bit of Ice shield it is a rubber type product they use on roofing to help stop Ice Dams up here in the north country. It has an adhesive backing to stick to just about anything. I should damping the noise putty well and not give you problems in the weather.
