If you want the best radar detector on the market buy a Beltronics pro 500

it has GPS and many other features , with the GPS one can lock out false signals

and it has a data base of speed traps than can be updated via computer.

I bought mine recently and it is very good.

+1 for the Valentine One, i've run one for about 10 years now, well worth the investment.

It's not a license to speed, it's about being aware of your situation. No "detector" offers 100% protection though, as Laser is instant-on and has little to no warning most times. Being watchful helps, but pairing the Valentine One with a laser jammer system would be ideal for those that can afford such a system, as they are expensive for good systems. Like anything else, if you need it, it's probably cheaper to buy the system than to pay tickets and higher premiums... or just don't speed.

I bought it more out of curiosity rather than for speeding. But cops do look at us like eye candy

I have a K40. pretty good radar, and they pay for any tickets you get within the first year. (as long as it's not a crazy ticket)

My friends dad is a cop and I asked him about them once. He said cops know when you got em becuase they catch your speed and then they see you brake. And, if they are using their radar gun they got you before you can brake. Besides, going like 24 over isnt even considred a moving violation any more. I'd put the money towards soemthing better. Why pay money to speed?

That is somewhat true where I live there is a lot of traffic so my radar picks up people being " gunned" way before I see the cop so I slow down early and it works great , so the only time a good radar doesn't work is when there is not traffic even then once the radar goes off and I brake then the cop usually let's me go though that happens rarely. As a bonus my Beltronics pro500 locks out false alarms via GPS , a great feature. Plus there is always radar jamming devices a option for my unit I may purchase in the future although they are illegal in some parts. My new radar has saved me a ton of money already no doubt . If you own a mustang and especially if it's a V8 , your going to speed ha. (=

this is false...they do not offer jammers since they are illegal 100% of the USA

from their website
"As far as radar "jammers" are concerned, we do not make a radar jammer. Radar jamming is illegal in every state, and is an FCC violation. With jammers there is a simple rule of thumb: if it works it is illegal, if it is legal it doesn't work. Craig Peterson finds passive radar jammers "utterly useless" in his article, Jamming Ol' Smokey, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that passive radar jammers "aren't any more useful to jam radar than a block of wood."

and if officers are using VASCAR no matter how expensiver your unit is you will be caught

But I live in Canada ha , and here you can CAN own a radar detector it is 100 percent legal in my province British Columbia (not in all provinces) but they may confiscate the jammer , so people put them under the dash or somewhere hidden and as far as the jammers being useless , not sure on that will have to do more research on that one , but you are right on one point Beltronics doesn't make a jammer I thought they did but I checked.
And VASCAR we don`t have that here in Canada , thank GOD lol...

You cant detect vascar lol...unless you create a device that can tell when a cop starts and stops his stop watch

I understand where you are coming from. On thw flip side did you ever try going 25 in a 25 mph zone? Feels like you are CRAWLING and can literally run faster. Back to the op question. I run a passport 8500 black and love it. Didn't go for the 9500 bc of the price difference that I couldn't hack at the time. Love the 8500.

I actually find it entertaining to drive exactly the speed limit, especially in the 45mph zone interstate in memphis. Other drivers get visibly upset, quite funny.

The best thing though is to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Can't tell you the number of spilled drinks or flying cell phones i've seen in the mirror.

I always try to drive the exact limit if not a few under if I ever do get pulled over it'll be because of expired plates or a bad brake light or some ****.

The better detectors do this. It's the emergency vehicle detection. Some even alert you to RR crossings coming up that are closing/closed.

That's why I bought the Beltronics Pro 500 , it has GPS and one can manually lock out false signals , works great . I used to have the Beltronics RX65 it was good but the false signals were annoying , this one solves that problem. Emergency vehicle detection is good but getting a false alarm driving by seven eleven everyday is bad , not any more. And like I

And as I have said before it has a data base of radar speed camera traps that can be updated via computer or one can MARK the location , this is one smart detector.

After years of wanting one we bought a Valentine-1 2 weeks ago. What convinced me is the upgrade policy which as far as I know, no one else has. As the police change and upgrade their radar you can send it in to Valentine for an upgrade.

When we bought our Cobra and joined the local Mustang club they said its not a matter of if you'll get a ticket but when. That being said we are not speeders. My last speeding ticket was in my 70 Mach-1 around 1985 at over 100 mph. Luckily I'm from PA and the ticket was in MD. No points and a fine of $40 as long as I paid it within 7 days. Nowadays in PA over a hundred could cost you your license. It's been 29 years I generally drive at or under the limit in my Ranger or my Wife's Volvo. But the Cobra's cruising speed just naturally falls into 80 so easy. After 2 years with no tickets I told my wife I'd be pi$$d to pay several hundred plus points for a ticket, I'd rather put that into the detector for a fighting chance. We are still both very careful though.

+1 on the Valentine-1

I haven't got a ticket in oh at least 10 years , always ran a radar detector and always Beltronics but I don't speed everywhere only sometimes and only on open highway roads never in the city , however even driving in a city it is easy to go over the limit by just 20 km which will get you a ticket ,yes the pro 500 can be updated too but you don't have to send it in , just hook it up to your computer via usb. My new detector has already paid for itself and I have only owned it for a couple of months , saved me twice already a good investment in deed.
