Lol. It's hard for some people to talk about their feelings. Even in a virtual environment.

I'm with sam. Only in my case, I might be rich. We will never know. She has the check book.

I got a tough decision to make replace my parking brake cable ($551) or just get a dadgum newer Mustang. It also needs more work probably about $1100 worth of work.

The issue is its an 06 and I'd rather have newer. I like the 4.6 but if I'm going to spend 6 grand I want an 07 or 08. But I'm still considering it

I too am the son of a former abusive and still current alcoholic father. I still live with him, at the age of 25, and live rent free. Probably because he feels guilty and alone, now that he's been divorced for over 15 years and I'm the only one that's stuck around. He lives on the main floor of our apartment, sleeps an unknown and absurd amount of hours every day, drinks and smokes like a chimney in-between naps, lacks basic hygiene, refuses medical treatment of any sort no matter the problem, and never leaves the apartment except to walk to the liquor store across the parking lot.

I have tried to leave multiple times but something always comes up and I run out of money. I also realize that once I move out, we will never speak again unless I make a conscious effort to initiate contact; and I'm not entirely sure I would. His brother lives maybe 3 miles from us and they haven't seen each other in almost 2 years, despite my uncle's invitations.

ohh, that's a tuff one, you cant make him change his ways, all you can do is set him up to make the right choices (quit drinking/smoking, or being involved with family) I see why you stay and don't leave, I understand this tough situation. and I feel sorry that you have to deal with that extra stress :/...maybe if you do move out he will see what he is doing "wrong" and fix or it could make it worse. man I'm sorry...you could try and tell him your moving out if he don't change his way to scare him and if he does change, the you could cross that bridge, but if he doesn't care to change then that'll have to be your own personal call. I mean he is your father, but I'm also pretty sure you don't want to live your life like he does, or be under that influence, maybe try having a talk with him and see what can happen? idk man

All of that has been done to death, lol. My sister and I have had multiple talks with him that usually end up with him agreeing he needs to change, but then nothing happens. My sister even gave him an ultimatum about 4 years ago that if he didn't make a conscious effort to see her, she would no longer consider him her father. She's lived 200 miles away with our mother since the divorce.

He got a DUI (surprisingly his first) 2 years ago. Hell, when we were leaving to go get his truck from impound, he cracked open a beer. I put my foot down and we didn't pick up his truck that day. Went through all the AA classes and the did no good.

Because of his depression and subsequent procrastination, we lost the house I had grown up in since birth. I had to pay $800/month in rent for our apartment, while I was making minimum wage and working part time, for the first 6 months after the move because he had been unemployed for 5 years. He managed to burn through all of his savings, and even his life insurance policy that he canceled and cashed in. He also hasn't filed taxes since 2006. I had to treat him like a child to finally get him to send in his forms to start collecting his pension.

When I told him I was looking at houses, he was completely supportive and even went to a few walk-throughs with me. Each house I got under contract with ended up failing inspection due to structural issues and I ended up losing close to $1k in the process. The last time I looked was November of last year and I was told my credit was no longer good enough and to try again in 6 months. That was the day I got pissed off at the world and ordered my 2014 GT.

damn...I hate to say it, but sounds like he's bringing you down(credit, losing $, and personal time) and is going to continue to do so, and something needs to change you and/or him, someone needs to make a call. What if your wanting to start a family, kids, your own house, or whatever? I mean this sounds bad but that's my opinion and I'm sorry to say that cuz I'm not in your shoes and its not my father :/

Haha, I more or less needed to vent. There is no helping the situation aside from escaping. I'm getting out as soon as it's financially sensible, but right now almost 1/4 of my take-home pay is going to my GT. My credit has vastly improved in the last few months, and my mother has committed to giving me a sizable chunk of change to put towards a house. I just need to pay off my Best Buy credit card and find a decent and willing roommate, then I should be alright.
