Done, for a while anyway...

Well I ran into a deal I could not refuse and traded in the Mustang (and some cash) for a almost like new 1998 Mercedes SL500 with only 30k miles. It has a new top, frame and all, and upgraded hydraulics (the seals fail with time)--here are some photos:

One previous owner from Fort Lauderdale, they drove from there and traded it (and $50,000) at a local high-end dealer for a 2008 SL550, I saw it on the lot and stopped in to "talk turkey", we came to terms and I drove it home.

5.0 L, 32-valve with variable intake timing, 326 HP/347 lb-ft at the crank and a 155 MPH speed limiter; 0-60 in 6.0 seconds. I had it up to 140 today and it definitely had more room to play. It is a slush-box (hangs head in shame) but it's a 5-speed with a very nice shifter. It also will, at WOT and "right out of the box" with no tune, run right up to redline before it shifts.

Not much to customize on it, or performance mods, so I will just drive it--good enough for a geezer like me.

I will continue to lurk about and help as I can...

Thanks for all the fantastic info you have provided and also thanks for your great website. I've really been able to tweak my shift points/light perfectly with that.

Hey is that the car dealership its on federal highway I used to go to school down there just wondering if that place is still around.

Even some German 4cyl go for 30k lol

Also you'll probably own another pony one day. When the opportunity comes

I drove the Mustang 10 times in the last 1-1/2 years, about 1750 miles altogether--I suspect I will drive this more, maybe 5k a year.

I got a service manual and it appears to be relatively easy to wrench, no worse than the 4V engines in the new Mustangs. The drivetrain is described by many on the SL500 forums as "bulletproof", with the 1998s with the 32V DOHC engine being one of the high points. Daimler-Benz bought Chrysler in mid-1998 and the 1999 models have a 3V SOHC Chrysler engineered engine that puts out 20 HP less...

We will see...

I happen to think it looks at least as good, in a different sort of way; the fake scoops had bothered me since I got the GT. My first bad experience with fake stuff was in the 7th grade--her name was Marcia and she was also advertising something she didn't really have...

I happen to think its a beautiful car but I love Mercedes and that one in particular with the wide body is pretty.

Enjoy it and let us know what life is like AM (after mustang).

Sad to see the stang go but that is one sweet ride I'm sure you'll love it. And you'll fit right in with all the other old codgers in Florida now.

I kid I kid.
