first ticket

Just got my first ticket. Charged me with speed competition and aggressive driving even though I technically wasn't racing just having some fun. I mean I was going 40 in a 50. Any chance I could lose my license?

That stinks! I wouldn't think u would lose ur license. Of course, that will be up to a judge to decide. I would say. "What kind of damage can u do at 40?" But I know what kinda damage I can do at 40 sooooo lol. Good luck bro.

You won't lose your license, but you should still fight it. Like you said, you weren't racing, and you weren't speeding - so I don't see why you should lose it. However, If you were aware that there was a cop nearby, following a sporty car for about 20 minutes, I'm not sure that flooring it in a Mustang was the best idea lol. Good luck, though!

Remember you didn't kill anyone, hurt anyone, or commit a crime. It's An infraction, the most you will get is a fine slap on the wrist and your insurance might go up. But other then that it's just life.. I got a careless driving ticket for avoiding and accident, so sht happens..

You should have said "if I was trying to race we wouldn't be having this conversation right now"

You know what else would suck is when your showing off by racing cops and going over the speed limit a kid runs out into the street and you kill them......

Despite what you might think, speed limits weren't created just to piss us off. If it says 35 in a school zone, that's not a dare...

Florida has a simular law.

Good luck trying to "beat" it. Your best bet would be to ask for a 'prayer for judgement'. North Carolina and other states allow this in some cases. Basically, you can ask the judge to grant you a prayer for judgement on this ticket. Since it's your first ticket, the judge usually complies, and gives you a speech on being a better driver. Try to dress nicely, as this shows respect to the judge.

What it means is that they remove the insurance points, lower the fine (not always) so that your insurance does not go up. You then have to keep your record clean for 5 years. If you get another ticket within the 5 year prayer for judgement grant, they apply the points back from the old ticket along with the new ticket.

The prayer for judgement may be called differently in other states, but North Carolina calls it this for first time tickets.

Back in the 80's I lived in Selma North Carolina. I got a speeding ticket, and talked with a lawyer buddy on what I could do to get the ticket fine reduced/beat the ticket/get insurance points removed. He told me about the prayer for judgement thing.

It worked for me. I kept my driving record clean for 5 years. That was the hard part!

Tell the judge you have Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and sometimes your right foot juts forward uncontrollably, causing you to accellerate rapidly. Or, you could claim "affluenza".

This is ridiculous.... 40 In a 50 and ticket ... I would definately fight it. It shouldn't be that hard to fight due to the fact that if you were racing out 0-60 times are 5 or so seconds .... See where ongoing with this

Flooring it beside a cop will get you a ticket nearly everytime...
