My most regretted time spent on a mod:

I bought a plastic rear window louver. Saw it on Ebay for $99.00 (still selling them). It arrived in a large, semi torn box (first gut feeling this was not going to be good). I opened the box, and one out of the 6 mounting plates was missing, as the cheap zip lock bag they had the plates, washers, and black bolt caps in was open. Also missing were two of these black bolt caps. Contacted seller via an Ebay/PayPal despute (love using PayPal; never lost a case yet that I had to file). Seller refunds me the total selling price/shipping fees, and tells me to not bother to ship the item back.

Alright. I install it anyhow by making one more plate (small piece of aluminum; welded threaded bolt). I attach the 6 plates to the rear glass (used 3M automotive tape that was supplied; that worked good). I install the ABS plastic louver. I install the washers and black bolt caps (had to get two stainless steel ones from Ace Hardware and paint them; no biggie). I stand back and look at it from several angles. I decide it's not going to stay on the car long, as it's cheezy and cheap looking. I go for a ride to get gas. At 50 MPH, that ABS plastic rear louver is vibrating and creating harmonics in the car that would do a set of Roush axle backs proud (sorry Roush axle back owners ).
I promptly get the gas, head back to the house, and rip that thing off. It had already cracked in three of its center spots between the slats with that short ride.

Someday I'll buy the aluminum one and install. I had it on a 69 Mach1 I used to own. I liked that look.

You are correct. I've always been an advocat on the "you get what you pay for", yet I allowed myself to purchase this cheap copy of the real deal.

My most regretted time spent on a mod#2:

Installed a Roush hood scoop on my 2005 F150. Got it painted. Spend a couple of hours with the template on the hood making reeeeeeeal sure all the holes would be drilled exactly how they needed to be. Drilled the holes. That went smooth. Installed the hood scoop. Stepped back to admire the scoop. Looked nice; I liked it.

A couple of days later, washed the truck. Dried it. Went to the store with the wife to grocery shop. Watched all the trapped water from under the scoop fly back against the windshield. Looked slightly to my left to see my wife looking at me, wondering why I would install such a dumb item on my truck.

To this day, it's still on the truck, and it still holds water between it and the hood, even after I've removed it, installed several types of foam, rubber, and other various ideas to seal it against the hood.

But it looks nice.

My most regretted time spent on a mod#3:

This is a fun topic (for me). Learn from my idiot mods.

Installed those way cool HID lights in my 2005 F150 (without HID headlight housings). The lights were bluish. The lights splattered light, rather than providing better, longer projecting light. The oncoming drivers flashed their lights at me, showing how much they loved me (yea, right). A cop pulled me over one morning, to inform me one of my "blue lights" was out. Did not write me up. Nice policeman.

Next day, HID's off. A set of sylvania silverstar bulbs get installed. Much better light.

But that's a story for "the best modes you've installed".

Luckily I've got projectors and I went with the step under the blue ones. It's white light with a light tint of blue.

At least it was free. You pretty much just lost your time and a few buckos. Ha! Good thing it didn't fly off while driving and possibly cause damage to the paint in the process.

I've wondered the same thing about the side scoops and the taillight trim pieces. You would think they have to trap water just like our mirrors. That would drive me nuts if I had the car all clean and dry and then water would come flying out.

Although it will probably be a while before I do gears (personal feelings about warranty concerns regarding gears and tune), if I do get around to swapping I will probably go only as far as 3.55.

Without doubt, worst thing I've ever done is smoked the tail lights. Too dim. Can't see them in daylight. Night time is crappy at best. Removing this mod ASAP.

I've seriously considered making my own Scott Drake louvers out of some scrap aluminum. That way I could paint them and throw on some black rivets.

My most regretted mod was paying $600 for a shop to install Flowmaster mufflers and huge chrome tips on my 1988 Camaro. Granted they patched up some of the holes thanks to rust in the intermediate pipe, but they weren't aligned right and it cost too much for what it was.

Most regretted mod by a previous owner was the MASSIVE air intake on my 1986 MR2. It was a short ram and the filter was bigger and longer than the tube that connected it to the throttle body. It was also positioned directly above the race header, so all it did was suck up hot air. I eventually replaced it with my own creation frankenstein'd by O'Reilly's parts (spectre).

Mines either coming off today or a replacement set of light will be ordered.

Worst mod ever on my 2006 4.0 was to try to build up the 7.5" rear end. Put a tlok, 3.73 gears, and added the LPW girdle to strengthen it. The gears were a Richmond set and the performance shop said they were indestructible.

All it took was a CAI, a tune, and a set of drag radials to bend that indestructible Richmond pinion.

Swapped to a 8.8" rear end, and it was cheaper than the build on the 7.5" rear end. Should have just done that to begin with.

My least favorite mod was doing 3.55s or buying a Pro 5.0. I didn't notice a difference at all with the gears and kept banging my knuckles with the Pro 5.0

What did you go to 3.55s from? If it was from 2.73, you're the first person I have found anywhere on the Internet that said they didn't notice a difference at all. And I was just searching on 3.55 opinions this afternoon.

Kind of makes you wonder, if you didn't notice a difference going from 3.27 to 3.55, then going from 2.73 to 3.31 should feel about the same as going to 3.55s without needing a tune and dealing with possible warranty issues.

2.73 to 3.31 should feel more noticeable than what mine was. I noticed a difference when going from 3.55 to 4.10

3 months ago I would have said the rear window louver that is currently installed and paid $400+ for. But I bent it a bit and it fits like a glove now.
