So time has come to replace my 3 yr old sharp 60in the contenders are

Sony 4k 65in 2400 bucks
Samsung 75 in 2500
Vizio 80 in 3d tv 3000

I'm tempted to go for size and do vizio but sony and samsung make good products any advice ?

I would do the Samsung but I'm biased towards Samsung products. (I have a 65 Samsung TV, not smart or anything, also a Galaxy ,4 and S5 and the 10in Tablet) and use the other 500 for a PS4 if you don't have one already.

I LOVE the image of the Quattron. Maybe because I am partially color blind, but even a friend said at first it was creepy- its not like watching TV, it's like looking through a window, but brighter and clearer lol.

No offense taken if you choose something else. 4K is slick, but it's like having a BLU ray in 2000- your PS2 won't play it. Even now there are still many stations not offering HD, let alone FULL HD, or anywhere near 4K. You're trying to buy a hydrogen car in Ohio (there's no stations to fuel it).

Lol ya I think I eliminated the 65 and the 80 . 80 in is to big for gaming plus I have a projector anyway. I'm leaning towards a 70 after a trip to best buy ethir the vizio for 1900 or the sharp

I find it funny that most 4K panels, be it televisions or computer monitors, don't have the necessary inputs to display 4k resolutions, let alone at a very slow 60 hz.

If it doesn't have display port or HDMI 2.0 (which is pretty rare as of now), it's not going to run full 4k at any decent refresh rate. Then if it does, you have to have a video source that is capable of displaying out at 4k, of which, there aren't any cable/satellite or Blu-ray players capable of doing so.

So unless a 4k tv is going to be used exclusively off a computer, it's currently just a waste.

Also, another thing to consider, since you likely have a decent surround sound receiver, if you buy a 4k tv, will your receiver support 4k resolutions?? Odds are it doesn't. Hell, even within the last few years 3D pass-through on mid-range receivers has been spotty.

I have had 3 Samsung plasmas in the last 5 years, all have required service within the first year and all of them have died within 18 months. I currently have a 70" Vizio and after calibrating it, I have been very impressed.

As for the Sharp Quattrons, they are horrible. They display RGBY (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), yet everything made today is shot in RGB (Red, Green, Blue). Therefore, there isn't any material shot that uses that 4th color (Yellow). Also, while the Quattron panels do actually have four physical sub-pixel colors, there is no light from the backlight that finds it's way through the 4th (Yellow) color. So in essence, it's useless. All the yellow you see on a Quattron is actually Red and Green pixels, just like every other panel. What Sharp does do is over brighten the Yellows. Also, the Yellows on Quattrons are actually more biased on the Green side of the color spectrum, as the human eye perceives this Yellow much better than what the true color of the material is, typically more Red.

So think the vizio is a better buy compared to sharp? I like the 70 the 80 is nice but playing any games on it at my distance wouldn't be that fun .

Buy whichever you feel is the better buy. I personally think the 70" Vizio Razer's are some of the best large screen TV's for the money.

No other TV replicates what I see with my own eyes like my Quattron. Regardless of what he hears from us, he should be taking whatever he is going to use there, and test it.

So take your PS4/3 or computer and play what you would normally. See what looks best for you. Your eyes will see what looks best to you. For me, nothing looks near as good as my Q. The 70 inch Vizio I had over saturated reds to the point it felt my eyes were burning, so I returned it. Just Make sure you return it before it's too late, or pick our the right TV before hand.

Ya for me gaming wise the sharp has lag even the 60 I have had for a while . I don't think the q is worth 4-500 more I can use that money for other things .

I'd compare refresh rates, or how it ACTUALLY shows. If a 65 and a 46 both have a 120 refresh, the 65 will look worse. But depends on your connections, too. Either way, I'd test them out before buying. That auto play at the store isn't appropriate for comparing to your situation.

Avoid Vizio. Bought a high end one from them and the backlight failed 1 week out of warranty. Turns out that failure is not repairable - you have to replace the TV. It was 12 months, one week old. Vizio totally blew me off. Crap product, crap company.

Easy answer

Get a SONY. Whatever size you want. They still seem to be the very best most reliable out there.

We sell all of them at my store I work at and honestly we get a lot of returns on vizio. And a few samsungs here and there. Sonys quality is really hard to compete with. I personally say go with samsung I like there tv's a lot. But for vizios price it's hard to resist. Especially if your getting an extended warranty. But 80ins might be to big how big is the room it's going in?

Well it's going in a basement and I just got back from best buy again . The samsung 75 next to the vizio 70 blows it out of the water . The sony 70 looks better then the samsung . And the 65 4k looks awesome to bad not enough content .

So

Samsung 75 or sony 70 that 5 inches adds a lot

Did you do your calculations on the distance you will be sitting from the TV? Like someone else stated earlier, you can get too large of a TV depending on how far you will sit from it.

Exactly, there is going to be a sweet spot where your going to want to be sitting with the size of the tv. Your audio system will come into with where you sit, as to where you want to place your speakers and such. I actually work for best buy lol we can send a geek squad agent out to your house and he can tell you exactly what would work for you.

That 5 inches is diagonal...so a lot more space than it seems. To me, going the bigger route is better, would rather have too big than too small.

The 70 is almost 16% bigger- have you tested whatever you're going to use on them?
