Lightning killer

Ok...I have a friend who is wanting to make a lightning killer and I'm trying to get some feedback from some more ppl on this. Basically, we're gonna take a 03+ standard cab silverado, swb, 5 speed, flareside, 6 cyl and pull engine and replace with either a 454 or 572. We're trying to decide which engine to put in. Whichever one we get will be supercharged, just trying to decide if the extra money for the 572 would be worth it. But this will be a work in progress for a little while. Have alot of other projects to finish first. Just trying to get some feedback from some other ppl. This will be one bad truck when we finish.

This is the last site to be asking about Chevy trucks, but I'd go with the 454. More parts available fo' sho'. I'd first recommend going to a Chevy site. I don't know jack about Chevy motors and I doubt many people here do either. Good luck with all of that.

Well, don't try and race a 06 Lightning. With the Ford GT engine gettin dropped in, I doubt you'll take that one.

But I know alittle about Chevy's. My dad was a Chevy guy, all my friends are Chevy guys, so it kinda wore off on me.

Judging by the engine choice, your throwing Emissions to the wind. The numbers on the 572 are as follows.

ZZ572/620 (Pump Gas, 92 octane)
Horsepower: 620hp@5,500rpms
Torque: 650lb-ft@4,500rpms
Compression: 9.6:1
Cam Type: Hydraulic Roller
Duration (@ 0.050): 245/264
Valve Springs: 1.540 Diameter
Intake Manifold: Tall Deck, Single Plane

ZZ572/720R (Race Fuel)
Horsepower: 720hp@6,250rpms
Torque: 685lb-ft@4,500rpms
Compression: 12.0:1
Cam Type: Mechanical Roller
Duration (@ 0.050): 266/274
Valve Springs: 1.567 Diameter
Intake Manifold: Tall Deck, Single Plane
Carb: 1,095CFM, 4500-Type

Now the ZZ572/620 will be alittle hard to supercharge. But with the ZZ572/720R, why would you even need one. Your best bet is to calcualte the Horsepower to weight ratio of the engine choice and the Ford Lightning you wanna race and then factor in for driver error.

Now the 454 will come with more of an aftermarket. But with either engine it will come down to the driver, tranny gearing, and the right rear end gearing.
