Nope. Can't add two cylinders worth of sound to a V6. As much as I like the V6 and appretiate it's power and sound, it's never going to sound like a V8. Folks should simply accept that fact.

take out one spark plug it will give you a rough cam idle........jk

I will say for a V6 the 3.7 sounds good to me, but it ain't a V8

Nothing will sound like a v8 except a V8 but you can make your V6 sound like a damn a good V6 (for a muscle car anyway) http://youtu.be/tJ6fFtggiWg

That sounds sick. Yours?

And as for the OP everyone has pretty much said it. V6 can't and will never sound like a V8.

Only way is to raise the displacement and add cams to it to make it idle lumpy. The displacement is for the deepness of the engine.

This is probably the best V6 i've ever heard. It idles like a V8, only time you can tell its a 6 is when it loses its depth when he revs it, thats where a higher displacement will help (mostly bore)

Defiantly both..I raced them in their subie and beat them in a 1/4 mile dig and roll race for 150$ still wouldn't pay up, now one of the v6 guys "Thinks" I may beat him. Lol.

Supersixmotorsports has a cam that makes a v6 sound like a old 5.0 at idle. The long tubes improves the sound and makes it louder. You will never get the sound without the right cam.

My wife took her 2007 V6 4.0 to the ford dealer yesterday about her recall. The guy that worked there thought she had a V8.

I was like

You can make a V6 sound really good, but you can't make it sound like a V8. Although I do have a buddy that did a pretty damn good job of it. Let me see if I can find his IG post.

Yep the ford 3.8 and the chevy 4.3 can fool you idling but one touch of the gas pedal and your busted lol. The 3.7 sounds like a well tuned V6. When I first bought my car a few of my coworkers thought it was a gt because of the size of my exhaust tips(manual mufflers) one turn of the key and thats it for the gt theory

Regardless of the exhaust, cams, tune, etc that can only alter the sound of the engine. The engine is going to sound like whatever it it. Can you make a 4 cylinder or V6 sound good? absolutely. But it will NEVER sound like a V8.

Reminds me of people that post up with there Mustang GT's or Z/28's and want to make them sound like a Ferrari or some other exotic. A large displacement V8 will NEVER sound like a low displacement DOHC V10 or V12 regardless of what cam or exhaust you put on it.

Agreed, it can sound good, but it will never sound like it has those extra two cylinders. Though some people who don't know better can be fooled.

You've said what I've been saying all along. I told a friend that very same thing,he got mad and insisted his V6 3.7 sounds like a V8.

I said I'm not hating, but they don't sound the same. I drive a six and have never once thought it sounded like a V8

Do any of you follow Formula One? This year the rules changed and those cars went from 2.4L V8s to 1.6L Turbo V6s. They sound nothing alike, they got quieter and the fans absolutely hate the lack of noise and the manufacturers have been working to find a solution. Now if Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault can't get a $20 million dollar car to sound like a V8, good luck to you and your Mustang.

Formula One can install a sound tube!

Instead of it routing to the cabin (which these race cars don't have), they can route the end that goes to the cabin to an amplifier, then to a speaker pointing at the crowds!

They have track days for legitimate clubs. Something like $350/driver to run all day.

Our Mustang club runs at Motorsport Ranch and Eagle's Canyon several times a year (both in north Texas).

Forget the sound tube, just run a speaker to straight up fake it and make them sound like the old V12 cars again!
