Everyone's a photographer

With the advent of the smart phone everyone who owns one seems to be under the conception that all that is required to be a photographer is a snap of the screen button

There was a time when you actually needed a camera. "Selfies" were left to the occasional contortionist. It actually took some thought because you didn't want to waste your film. Not today!

What this is leading to is, beside the selfies, which drive me up a wall, are the multitude of car photos that are shot from 45° to 90° from the horizon. What is that all about? OK, maybe one or two but there are albums on this forum that give the impression that all cars are parked up or down a steep hill. The other standard shot these days are of someone's car shot from 2 inches off the side of the fender looking down the length of the car.

Give us a break all you "creative" individuals. I want to see your car and what you have done to it. Leave the artsy-fartsy shots for Facebook.

Just my two-cent opinion.

Haha, sounds like your begging for a whole bunch of sarcastic people to post the above mentioned photos in this thread. Although I doubt there's anyone like that in this forum.

Yeah, I thought about that AFTER I posted this. Really I was wondering if I was the only one who felt this way.

I think I kinda know where you are coming from. There has been times where someone posts pics of new mods and you can't really see how they blend with the car. I find myself thinking just take a picture of the whole car.

How about this one is it OK? Don't want to offend anyone(-; OK you forgot one of the other ones that bugs me. Look at how much brighter these lights are after I installed xyz bulbs or did etc. Everyone's monitor is different and their sound is different so what looks good on your monitor looks like crap on mine

In this particular picture I directed the sunlight in a outwards position so the sun beams would hit directly 15 degrees higher above my wheels which affected the brightness by exactly 3.5%. After that I knew I would have to move to a 72 degrees angle to position my self on the lower part of the driveway to make sure the the car was at the right position for the picture.

While not shot at quite a 45° angle from the horizon, I actually do live at the top of a hill:

Not your "standard" fender shot, but this image shows the stock 4x4 suspension before I lowered the car.

Do you think these images are artsy-fartsy enough for Facebook?

I'm personally a fan of car photos with great background. I'm just now trying to do rolling shots.

I have done work at PAX before but my BOSS has never been on base. The pier is actually At Sandgates so I'm not the car you've seen but I have seen the one you are talking about!

Your opinion is very valid. Also, try to tell someone using an iphone or a high megapixel count android that if they are trying to take legit pics they need a DSLR and they get all offended. We just moved up from a 4:3 to a DSLR finally via a ridiculous Cyber Monday special on Tiger and its... well there is just zero comparison.

DSLR is expensive though. I love taking pictures of my car but not enough to justify a camera like that yet.

Its just a nice thing to have. Saw a Nikon D3200 for sale on Tiger for $500 with two lenses and the case and pounced on it.

I'm sure it's nice my grandfather was a professional photographer for the government and he always said Nikon is the best. But I don't drive my mustang with a camera around my neck like a Japanese tourist. I carry my IPhone6 it fits in my pocket, takes pictures, sends messages, makes phone calls, plays videos, search the Internet, and all kinds of other stuff too. And most importantly it's my pocket when I need it. Saw this car today in factClick image for larger version

I hear that but I see these ppl posting ****ty "photo shoots" of their cars all the time which were obviously taken with smartphones. If you are going to try to do a serious shoot, use a serious camera. At least a 4:3 with a decent lens, I paid $125 a few years ago for a mint condition Olympus PEN camera that takes pretty good pics but you have to really play around with it for it to shine. The Nikon I just put into sport mode and hold down the shutter lol. I need to learn to get better with it and actually use it properly.
