I've had the Mustang up for sale on my local Craig's list for about 3 months. I had a few offers but none had followed through.
On last Monday, I started the Mustang up because it had been sitting for a few weeks and it turned out the A/C had quit cooling.
I still had warranty coverage until September of this year so I thought, no big deal, I'll drop it off at the dealer and get it covered.
I find out that the A/C evaporator core was leaking and it would be covered under warranty. So no big deal.
I was always hesitant to even try to trade it in because I've got too much money invested in aftermarket parts. They wouldn't give any extra if I left it all on there and I dreaded returning the car to stock and then trying to sell off all my parts. I figured the best possible solution would be to sell the car privately and fully intact.
My 2011 Mustang
GT base with its current milage of 63k had a trade in value of $16,900 even though I had about $7k in parts I realize they are used now and with age depreciation I'd be lucky to even get half of what I got into it. So I posted it on CL for $20K.
So, back at the dealership. After checking up on my Mustang I go visit my sales guy. He's sold me 4 cars in the past including my Mustang and I've always had a good experience with him so I let him know the situation I was in and that as soon as the Mustang sells I'll be paying him a visit to negotiate a new truck.
Naturally, as any salesman would want to earn his commission he ask me what would it take to trade in the Mustang and get into a new truck today? I showed him my CL add. He laughed and then asked me what would I really take? I told him $20k. And he said, you're serious. I said, absolutely.
Then we talked about what I wanted to buy. I told him that I want to be able to haul a 40 foot gooseneck trailer for a side business I'm starting. I told him I'm interested in an F350 super crew 4x4 dually. He said, if you're buying a truck like that, I might be able to get you $20k for your car. I told him, I'll call my bank, you call your manager.
So we came to a deal. Because the car fax on the Mustang show it had light damage from a sideswipe they haggled me down another $500.
The new truck is sick. Although, when I think about the Mustang I feel an ache in the pit of my stomach but it was time to let it go.
The last few pics of the old and a few new pics of the new!
