Anyone else watching Barrett Jackson?

Not a huge fan of how its been inflating the cost of the classics (Mecum too) but goddamn there are some SWEET cars going across the block. Seen a ton of Mopars which are my favorite classics and there is a 70 Challenger two tone up right now.

Some of these things (not this Challenger) have been going in the $30-$40k range too. Makes you think if you are going to spend $45k on a new one, maybe look into a classic like one of these. I mean not me and not now but maybe down the road. There are companies that will do classic financing and insurance if you can't buy outright. I think Barrett Jackson even does it.

Yeah can't sleep, not feeling great, up watching it...

I've been watching it on and off. It's crazy what people are paying for some of those cars!
There are a lot of beautiful automobiles, that's for sure!

There was a 79 collectors edition trans am with 7 miles (yes 7) that sold for $150k. My father sold that exact model car with 25k miles or so for $18k 10 years ago. I rode around in it all the time on nice summer days as a kid.

I watch both the Barrett Jackson and Mecum auctions but the buyers are all pretty typical, older out of shape white guys who now have some money and are either trying to relive their younger days, impress the wife or impress a girlfriend.

The prices being paid for a lot of these cars is just silly, oh sure most of the muscle cars have huge engines in them but they weighed as much as tank, the 0-60 times on a lot of these cars are really slow.

Did you see that gold 1969 Boss 302 go for only $47K? If I was that seller, I'd be pretty upset they scheduled my sale for a day there was no money in the room.
That car looked NICE! Not that you can tell everything seeing it on TV though.
I record it, as I am only interested in about 10% of the cars, and I can fast forward through all the 5 minutes of commercials and the inane comments by the shows commentators. That, and the first couple of days, a lot of junk goes up for sale.
The one thing I keep thinking is --- I sure would like to see what my 455/435 HP Ram Air 1969 GTO would have sold for now. VERY few of those were made.

Agreed, I am taping it today as well, I will watch it at my leisure a few hours a day over the next 3 or days and yes skip over the commericals and cars I am not interested in.

I've been watching it on and off for a few days. Surprised that Jay Leno's 00 HD F150 went for $200k, though they did have to practically beg to get it there.

Did get some amusement out of dou*che and Loud losing on his COPOs, though he may have just been putting on a show.

Agreed about all the buyers being the exact same demographic. Actually... now that I think about it... I'm not sure if I saw any minorities at all bidding... which is kind of sad.

Just saw Burt Reynolds bring in one of the Smokey and the Bandit cars. He had no idea where he was. Or barely did.

I recall the muscle car prices skyrocketing several years ago when the stock market was low; these high rollers bought cars instead. Then the stock market recovered, and many lost money on these cars when the classic car market plummeted. Lets see how many of these cars get re-auctioned in a year or so and loose money.

Most of the late 60's muscle or sports cars on Saturday were going for about $100,000 a piece, absolutely crazy prices IMO.

I saw some real nice ones in the 30-40k range. They weren't special editions or they were restomods or something. Something to think about when a new loaded mustang/camaro/challenger goes for that.

I think we forget how poorly most of the muscle cars we grew up with handled and braked. And, most of them struggled to break into the 5 or 6 second to 60 mph bracket. I think that a new V6 Fusion would give the 1969 Boss 302 a run for its money at the strip or the track! Remember when a 60 series Goodyear Polyglass GT was a WIDE tire? No use having a 426 Hemi or Boss 429 when traction is non existent through the first two gears......
The people paying those crazy $$'s for 60's and early 70's muscle cars are not even going to drive them.......and maybe that is a good thing.
All that said, my dream car would still be a 1969 SCJ Mach I or Boss 302 (has to have the shaker hood!) or a 1969 Camaro -- either a 396 RS/SS or Z28.

Anyone see that 1970 Boss 302 in Calypso Orange? Factory everything including tires and it looked brand new.

Agreed that almost every one of these cars will not be driven or if they are itll be one of these aging dudes trying to impress the 28 year old they are dating. Or on or off the trailer...

I'm not sure if I saw that particular car, but it seemed like all of the Boss 302's that I did see, sold for reasonable prices.

I don't see anything wrong with a guy that's 65 dating a 28 yr old. Good for him but at the same time i would wonder what kind of chemical imbalance the 28 yr old girl would have to want to date a 65 yr old. There would be nothing positive that I could think of that would justify why she would. Whether it be money good looks or a big shlong. You couldn't tell me that a 28 yr old is ur ideal girl That u would take home to mom. She prob would have to be mentally / physically abused a drug abuser or just chicken head🐣🐣

Any 28 year old dating a 65 year old has a fetish or is a gold digger. Most likely the latter or both. Saw a lot of that in the stands at B-J lol.

Hmmm.
Well, I'm not 65 yet so I guess that I still have some time to rethink how I will spend my "golden years".

How about a 28 year-old dating a 50ish year-old?

Fun history fact. The term "hooker" is from General Hooker from the Civil War. He liked his prostitutes so much that they became "Hookers" and it stuck.

At any rate... thread derailed. Lets go back to talking about something else like how Mr. Jackson or whatever his name was with the sunglasses and the pulled back hair looks like he should be in a low budget movie cast as Lucifer.

Wait... crap...

We can certainly agree now that the cars of the 60's and 70's had poor handling as compared to what is available today; even a minivan today handles better then some of those early muscle cars. To be fair, its safe to say that the 60's and 70's muscle cars were much better in handling then a model T!
Most of us that are still around this car hobby will look back at these current cars 20 years from now and most likely make the same observations of how much more those current cars have advanced over what we have right now.

I see it ending or at least stagnating because there is only so much power that is safe to sell to Joe Blow for a street car. Its going to start to go more and more tech and design vs power/performance.

Not to mention in something like 20 years there will be more electrics sold than combustion and a good portion or majority of said power will be from renewables.
