ASE cert./UTI tech. college/other options?

Can a certified tech please help me out? I am looking at possibly enrolling at UTI in Houston, TX, looking to become a tech. I need guidance... and lots and lots of advice.

dude id say go for it. im prolly gonna enroll into either the phoenix or rancho cucomunga UTI. my homie says that the junior college courses are far better than UTI and seems to think hell be better qualified if he did all those courses as opposed to just going to UTI and coming out ASE certified. so were both gonna go our ways and who comes out on top.see i like the ASE cert. part but i dont wanna repair station wagons at ford or such, i want to open up my own shop, you know, be the big techie there that knows how to do everything on a car, but be the owner of the shop, so i dont really have to do any of the hard work. kinda like Paul Teotul SR on american chopper, but without all the yelling. so after all the schooling ill be better prepared to work on ACTUAL cars and hell just be the one who stands back cause all the junior college taught him was bookwork.

thanks for the imput tbird man. i'm not sure where i want to go or what i want to do, but i know it 1) involves cars and 2) will involve schooling!

i am trying to find out about FORD or GM apprenticeship programs but i haven't turned anything up yet. if someone here knows, please sit down and explain things to me. the priority is urgent because i'm going to have to make a living independently within a few months. thanks.

Hey all the big auto companies have apprenticeship programs I went through Volvo's program. They paid for everything. You have to contact the schools and find out which one has direct automotive participation.

yeah; ford and toyota have programs here. you do theory (book work) and practical courses (work work) and you intern at a dealer, so you have a job while you school.

i just became ASE certified. Sears paid for it, it was easy. I dont even do half of the **** they "train" you to do.

I didnt learn anything. Unless you take a real corse then take the ASE test.
Everything i did was paid for by sears and a special sears deal.

But i got a iron on ASE certified patch for my jacket. yay.
